Candidates Decline Debate Invite.

By Tim Enloe
Accessmilton.com

Council Candidates Tina D'Aversa, Al Trevillyan, and Bernard Wolff have declined the opportunity to participate in Wednesday night's Milton Municipal Debate sponsored by Beacon Media.

Citing scheduling conflicts and short notice, the event is to be held at Atlanta National Golf Club with a cocktail reception kicking off at 6pm and the debate running from 7:15pm to 9:30pm.

District 3 Candidate Al Trevillyan relayed that time was his issue, "I have a very busy schedule and I have a commitment to the citizens of Milton every night this week, which I intend to honor. Therefore, I had to respectfully decline the invitation."

Tina D'Aversa, candidate for the District 5 seat, shared the following, "I received an invitation via email on 10/22/09...a mere six days days before the Milton Municipal debate was to occur. I have had two events scheduled for Wednesday for the past two weeks. If I had been given a proper notice, I would have been more than happy to participate. "

District 1 Challenger Bernard Wolff supported the stances relayed above, “I have previously scheduled activities up to the Election. I cannot in good conscience cancel a firmly scheduled meeting with a segment of voters who are anxious to hear what I plan to do when elected.”

Accessmilton.com, along with other local Milton businesses and volunteers, did sponsor the first Milton Peoples Forum earlier this month. At that time, constituents were given the opportunity to speak with and listen to the candidates share their opinions on various issues affecting the city.

In the final week of the '09 campaign season, all pledged their desire to reach out to more of the citizenry and run on the platforms that they have promoted to date.

The Beacon has come out to say they do not support Tina, they skewer her at every opportunity, and they expect her to appear at a function they sponsor so they can sling more mud at her? How moronic of the Beacon.

Anonymous said...

No kidding. The Beacon also contributed to the campaigns of Lusk and Thurman so why would Trevillyan or Wolff think thy'd get a fair debate? They wouldn't. Nice try Beacon.

Sorry, but I just think they are chicken.

People are smart. If the Beacon sets them up with hard questions and the others get softballs, they will see that. And they will just ignore the event.

Tina, et all just don't like playing with people who might not agree with them.

Again: Chickens!

wow! So did Beacon cancel the "debate"?
What is going on now- if anything?
Anybody.... Somebody... Nobody....
know anything?

Yes it's unfortunate that they will not be attending and particpating.

It would not however surprise me if Lusk, Thurman and company were given preferential advance warning of the intended debate and requested to keep the date open. I can't believe that Fredericks put this debate together without bouncing the idea off a few select candidates.

DAM!
(not spelled as the cuss word)

It was just going to be a Lusk, Thurman, Longoria Pep Rally anyway, thinly disguised as a debate by the Beacon so I guess the Pep Rally is still on....HA!!!

Cowardice in Milton: Zahner-Bailey Council Slate Chickens Out on Debate

Posted by: Hatcha Terd

October 28, 2009 - 06:10:38

NFP has learned that the entire slate of Milton council candidates supported by shrill moonbat councilwoman Julie Zahner-Bailey has withdrawn from the upcoming Milton council debate, apparently in protest over news coverage of embattled councilwoman Tina D’Aversa’s serious ethics troubles. Candidates D’Aversa, Al Trevillyan, and Bernard Wolff have all decided to renege on commitments to participate in the debate, apparently under orders from the domineering Zahner-Bailey. A source close to D’Aversa confirms the news and tells NFP: “Julie and Tina think this stuff (D’Aversa’s ethics complaint) is being exploited and blown up, so she and Julie agreed they wouldn’t participate if the media is going to act like this.” When asked why the other candidates bailed, the source disclosed: “Julie and Tina decided for everyone that nobody on our team should attend it (the debate).” This development confirms what NFP has been reporting for months: That Zahner-Bailey is the puppet master for a submissive and clueless crew of political bootlickers whose only purpose is to serve her every desire on the Milton council if they should somehow manage to get elected. But several observers tell NFP that they had no idea until the debate bailout just how much power Zahner-Bailey actually wields over the three spineless toadies. NFP‘s efforts to reach D’Aversa, Trevillyan, and Wolff were unsuccessful—prompting speculation that the three were tied up and handcuffed in Zahner Bailey’s basement, enduring a relentless and painful whipping from a stiff leather riding crop...Mo’ to come on this one...

RIGHT ON!

Geez...what a pile of horse crap! Do you really think for a minute that the candidates would subject themselves to the Beacon Pep Rally for Thurman, Lusk and Longoria after what the Beacon has done to Tina....and oh, by the way, how fair would it be knowing the Beacon has contributed to the Lusk and Thurman campaigns? How low will Fredricks go? Too low for Tina, Al and Bernard. They will be meeting with the community toniggt as well, just not at the public stoning the Beacon had planned. Nice invitation Beacon, 6 days before the event? Did you think the candidates were just waiting for your invitation....NOT....they are meeting with and listening to the people. Bill and Karen and Joe need to take a lesson.

Wow! I didn't know Julie had THAT much control over the city. We should have encouraged her to run for mayor.

Just because there are those that live in Milton whose rural visions are not in keeping with others who are perhaps pro Developer and Development does not make them 'Kool-Aid's drinkers.

This may come as a surprise but there are thousands of residents here capable of thinking for themselves - most of them are oblivious to this site and would not know JZB if she was standing directly in front of them. You attribute her with way to much power.

It's pretty sad reflection that adults cannot respect the accomplishments and achievements of individuals no matter whom they represent or support or how they interpret life, events and decisions around them.

Personally I choose to give a little credit to a mature gentleman like Al Trevillyan (write-in candidate or not) who has been around for 73 years - 25+ years of it before the majority our council members were even born. Seems to me like he just may have experienced a few of life's challenges through the years (including active service) and be capable of intelligent rational thought independent of JZB.

Oh! On second thoughts perhaps not -after all he only holds M.S. and Ph.D degrees. He's a man whose career only spans 30 years in chemical research and development, who has served in numerous municipal positions in other states including the Zoning Board of Appeals, the economic Development Commission and as a member of an environmental impact committee. Not to mention all his volunteer activities.

Hardly competition for the superior "intellectual capabilities" and higher education achievements of the rest of our 'esteemed' Council.

The fake NFP article was hilarious.
Thanks for the laugh.

When you throw your hat in the (political) ring, you have to be able to handle situations where you have supporters of your opponents.

Yes, it is clear that the Beacon does not support the JZB slate. But they do run a very clean debate and would lose their "clean debate" reputation if they were unfair in their questions or dealings with the candidates.

I want council members who are comfortable and confident in any situation, especially when they are in the den with the lions. That is where intelligence and common sense make all the difference. They just lost an opportunity to show their mettle.

Does anyone know Tina, Al and Bernard's schedules for this evening? What events are they participating in for the citizens. I was looking forward to an actual debate- I'm discouraged that the candidates are not allowing the citizens of Milton to see them all together again. I do not care to go to a fund raiser or meet and greet for any of them- I want to hear their platform and I want to hear them debate/talk side by side! Shouldn't we at least have that opportunity?

The Beacon is an embarrassment to Milton. Why would anyone want to support its nasty, vindictive agenda?

Anonymous said...

Who would name a kid "Hatcha Terd?" I have read the North Fulton Politics and it is as rank as the writer's name.

Anonymous said...

The name is a joke, a play on a real name! You would know this if you read the local news!

Anonymous said...

The calculation is simple. Julie decided her candidates would have more to lose by showing up than by a no-show. That remains to be seen.

Interesting that all three had the same scripted excuse. The first debate was was chaired by Julie team supporters but all candidates showed up. It would have been much smarter for the three no-shows at tonight's event to make an appearance regardless of the venue. As it is, they look bad and the voters lose. Maybe they will change their collective mind and show up after all.

Yes, the Beacon is a rag and it's biased, but Tina, Bernie and Al are running for a political position. They have opted to take the weak and cowardly way out of the prospect of debating at the Beacon forum.

Think about how much Leadership they could have shown if they had decided to show up and debate their opponents in an adverse setting. This was a real leadership test and they failed. Real Leadership stands tall against opposition and wins converts by keeping their chins up and voicing their message in a confident manner.

The Beacon gave extremely short notice.

I can give these people the benefit of the doubt.

The Beacon should have known that candidates have a tight schedule toward the end of their campaign especially those who are not incumbants.

No I am not a JZB kool aid drinker, Bernard bouncing, Tina toting, supporter.

But I do understand running a tight schedule with a deadline.

Anonymous said...

I've started using the Beacon as toilet paper when I run out of Thurman and Lusk brochures.

Anonymous said...

I am astounded by the immaturity of the candidates who opted out of the debate but even more so by the people who have made comments on this site.

Anonymous said...

Oh mature one, what would we do without you.

Anonymous said...

So it's immature to decline to attend a last minute scheduled debate when you have committed to other function's with other voter's weeks in advance?

Are you suggesting that the Beacon and voter's attending the debate are more important and should be given preferential treatment?

Quite a high level of maturity you display!

Anonymous said...

It's all a big fat game here. This is scripted from the mastermind herself. It works.

Anonymous said...

It shows true leadership not to be at the Beacon call of every John Fredericks' wim.

Thank you, Tina, Bernard and Al for showing real fortitude. I'm glad you didn't step into the gutter with the Beacon. The other candidates must be desperate.

Al, Bernard & Tina win my votes!

Ironically not one of the 3 JZB puppet canidates have been able to state where they actually were last night? Rumor has it they were dumping old water heaters in the river at bailey farms so they can have the boy scouts clean them out next year.

I think it is fine the other three did not show up.

It allowed us to get good information from the three who will be elected. That is what is really important at this point.
