Lockwood stands by his Council

In response to last week’s Political InSighter Column by [Beacon Publisher] John Fredericks titled, “Lockwood’s gamble: Trade two for one.”

Before there was even any word of challengers in this upcoming election in Milton, I made the conscious decision to support the three city council incumbents that were up for re-election. This included council members Lusk, Thurman, and D’Aversa.

This does not mean there is any collusion, voting block, or even any social interactions between us, but only three people out of seven individuals that are working hard to lead our city in a positive direction. We don’t always vote the same on issues and have different opinions on some of our city’s direction, but I believe this is healthy, productive, and what our citizens expect.
This is why I am supporting three different individuals that have worked hard for our city, along with myself, for Milton. This being said, this is in no way a reflection against any challengers and I am confident they understand my position and respect me for it.

Mr. Fredericks while you have your right to your opinion and predictions that I would not value my endorsement of Tina D’Aversa and would “abandon her campaign,” I totally disagree. For me this is not about politics and control, but about commitment, respect, and doing what I believe is the right thing. I will proudly continue to support Tina D’Aversa throughout this upcoming election!

Mayor Joe Lockwood, Milton

BAM BAM!

...and that's why I support Joe Lockwood!

I was hangin' in there until he said, "it is not about politics and control.."

I think this letter illustrates the way Joe operates. Last election two of the three people that he supported regulary vote differently on issues than he votes. I don't think he minds disagreement, just so he feels like he can work with the person. In this case, all three candidates are proven to him - they work hard even though they sometimes disagree. To me, this is one of the marks of a good leader.

Now who's drinking the Kool-aid?

Ha! you help illustrate a point made in a recent business conference that I thought was pretty good:

"You don't really have passionate supporters until someone starts accusing them of "drinking the koolaid." You might have happy supporters, even loyal supporters, but it's the truly passionate that piss off others enough to motivate them to say something. Where there is passion, there is always anti-passion... or rather passion in the hate dimension.

If you create passionate supporters, you have to expect passionate detractors. You should welcome their appearance in blogs, forums, and user groups. It means you've arrived. Forget the tipping point--if you want to measure passion, look for the koolaid point."

This whole discussion is a little bass-akward.
Joe tolerates Tina because she is no threat. He is uncomfortable around people he doesn't own.
Its true he is fine with bulbs that are at least a little dimmer than his, or the same tainted hue. He may have miscalculated when he got Alan, he went off the reservation pretty fast.

Tina pulled a fast one on Joe when she publicly switched her support from Lusk and Thurman (whom Joe supports) to their opponents. And she chose Joe's fundraiser for her to make her surprise announcement. It will be surprising if Joe continues active support for someone who betrayed and embarrassed him in public. Maybe he will just ignore her from now on. Joe's a good mayor. Too bad he has to deal with political cameleons on his council.

The other two had already switched their support to Langoria. But I suppose that's acceptable, forgivable and really not worth mentioning since it's simply the nature of Bill and Karen - such "class acts"!

Remember, Daversa showed up at Karens kickoff, then was on the video speaking on wolff at his. She pulled the first switch. I'll grant you Thurman and Lusk are do anything to win people, but I begin to think that daversa is too. I would like to see the video of the meet and greet and also the video from Trevillians event.

Why would Tina even think of supporting Karen and Bill when they openly through their support with vigor behind Joe Longoria practically the day he announced he was running. So it's okay for them to support her opponent, but she can't support theirs? That sounds fair to me. One way street around here. Like to see Karen and Bill on that street that leads out of here, and take Joe Lockwood with them. He is a traitor to his supporters. Not his true friends, they do what ever he wants them to do, I'm talking about the average everyday person that lives in Milton who supported him and his campaign, he has turned his backs on them by this notion of supporting all three incumbents, what horse poop is that. He eagerly wanted Mohrig and O'Brien out of there, why has he changed his tune? Money.

Karen showed up at Joe Lockwoods house then slithered out an hour later. If you are going to show up Karen, at least hang out and meet people that don't support you. Bet the Beacon won't print a scathing article or editorial about the nerve of Karen Thurman, showing up at Tina's event at Joe Lockwood's house. At least Bill Lusk had some sense and stayed home.

Ok, why is Lockwood a "traitor"? The two worst council member were not re-elected, now Karen and Bill are behaving. What options does he have, support them and have a balanced council for the sake of the city, or support Bernie and Al and have the city totaly frozen by Julie and her band of merry men, like Alan Zahner?

What has done against the regular people other than try to be balanced and fair to all?

Karen and Bill are behaving, how, by voting the way they always have. so they are behaving now, because Joe Lockwood and Burt have been voting along with them now, is that why they are all getting along now. He has changed his tune and they way he has voted this past year. This is why he is a traitor to the so called values that he ran his campaign on to get elected as Mayor in the first place. Now all abandoned for MOney.

So, what is your theory on all this "Money" he is making by voting with Bill and Karen. Or better than that - your facts. In other words "Show me the money" he is making or quit your rediculous accusations. It makes the "no growth" camp look stupid, and malicious. And, I'm not necessarily against having some no-growth folks on the council to give balance,

What is all this "traitor" and "changing his tune" crap? I know Lockwood and he is the same as he has always been from day one, balanced, reasonable, campaigned on common sense, and doing the right thing for Milton. He has not changed. He never said he would be unreasonable or unfair and say "no" to everything. You are mixing him up with Zahner Bailey and Alan Tart.

You sound like one of those Carol Lane or Laura Bentley whacko types! Get your people straight!

I think the real ones guilty of being corupt are the elected officials who are working for the BOE, that the harass and annoy the BOE, then have their husbands do landscape work for the BOE!

Here are the real corrupt politicians that are profiting from their position!

That is a story I'd be interested in hearing more about.

Just drive by Northwestern Middle School and look for the BF&G magnets. While one is teaching and collecting benefits from our tax dollars, the other one is charging the school to do work, which our tax dollars are being used again.

Word is around the school that he was working at night illegally extending the sewer because of a pipe break.

Nobody really believes that Tina and the mayor have an inappropriate relationship do they? If so that would be a shame for Joe's beautiful and sweet wife Dawn. I think she's GREAT!!!!!

A spade is a spade. Go to the city website and even though it's time consuming you can check and see how all the council voted on certain issues in the past. I've been checking it regulary and he has changed his tune. Sorry, but true. And I don't know the people you are referring to so sorry on that note as well. I support him in the very first election because he appeared to be a regular guy like me, however, his votes and his associations have changed over the past year and a half, little by little and now it's clear he stands with Bill Lusk and Karen Thurman with most votes, and Burt Hewitt tagging along.

Joe's Bank.

Anonymous said...

What is wrong with someone being involved with a bank? There are some elected officials that have thier business and make 100% of their money in Milton. That is definitely not right.

Anonymous said...

What did they vote on that was wrong? The only council that promised or committed to vote just like JZB was Alan. Most people would consider it wrong to agree with her anyway. The only people who think the majority of council vote wrong are the koolaide drinking groupies. Youo know them when you see them, long, unkempt hair that looks like you couldnt run a brush through it, long face, very miserable lives, you know the type.

Joe, if you ever read this stuff, I don't know how you put up with this kind of crap. Folks who start things like this should be ashamed of yourselves.

We are a small community. Why can't we just debate the different issues in an intelligent and civil manner. Why do we have to resort to nasty rumors etc. I would much rather hear why the No growth camp thinks their way is best and then hear from the more moderate group. One plan against another debated. I personally don't think any of them are evil people. They just have slightly differing beliefs on how the city should proceed. At the end of the day they all love Milton, their families and friends.

I'm sorry, I'm just tired of this crap throwing.

Welcome to Milton darling!

If you think this stuff is rough, wait until Milton County comes on line and all these ambitious polls start scrambling for a county position. Fulton County maybe a zoo, but Milton will be one big circus.
