MILTON, Ga. -- A father and his 11-year-old son were killed in a Saturday night crash in Milton, police said.

Channel 2 Action News has learned the victims are 45-year-old William Pope and his 11-year old son Bryce.

Milton police said the two were killed about 10:20 p.m. Saturday when their Mercedes sedan ran off the Birmingham Highway and hit a tree.

Police said Pope and his son died at the scene and that a passenger, 11-year-old friend Jeffrey Schoendorf, is in good condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Milton police said it's not known at this time why the car left the road.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Shut up already and stop using this website as your personal crusade to have 25 police officers on duty at one time. In effect, that would create a police state similar to that of socialist countries like Russia used to be! Your stupid little anecdotes do nothing but show us how ignorant you are to the real world. This was a tragedy and of course it happened on an open road, not an open road neigborhood mind you, considering that it was in a commercial area. You don't see these things happening in subdivisions because people can't go that fast.

Ignorant and arrogant you are.

First, if I can use this website to save lives, including yours, I will do so.

Second, look up the definition of the term "neighborhood" and then you will find out that said term "open road neighborhood" is indeed accurate.

Third; wreck wasn't in a commercial area.

Fourth: The more officers on duty, the safer our populace is and the more protected our property values are.

Fifth: "Of course it happened on an open road..." What do you mean, "of course"? Sounds like you believe that folks who live in the open road neighborhoods should be treated differently than those that live in the subdivisions.

Sixth: Finally, it is obvious you have received a ticket and are fearful of another as you speed up and down the open road neighborhoods of Milton while putting others loved ones in jeopardy. How pathetic of you.

I would love to debate you on video, but I doubt you would come out from behind the computer screen.

I wish you and yours the best.

Dear Genius-

I still refute your claims of intelligence as you have yet to show any.

1. Good luck saving lives with the crew of people that visit this website, your apparently more vain than I initially thought.

2. I know what a neighborhood is and know where the crash took place. 3 houses, a gas station, and a Publix shopping center do not make a neighborhood. Why don't you go to Disneyland and ride Its a small world a few more times!

3. Rural, Commercial, whatever you wanna call it, anything but an open road neighborhood, it certainly doesnt compare to your presious little Bethany

4. Could any of your little officer boyfriends have prevented this tragedy? no, didnt think so

5. Typical of you that you would read this as such, in your small mind its you against neighborhoods. I dont have any problems being treated the same, a law is a law. Living on an open road you obviously dont understand that driving through a neighborhood like white columns at speeds much lower than on open roads and state highways doesnt give one much chance to wreck at high speeds.

6. Zero tickets in my lifetime little man. How about you? I don't speed because of the danger and I'm never in a hurry, oh yeh and I don't try to twist facts to make myself feel more important, like you.

why don't see if your buddy ummah, isn't that what you call him, can still pull up your old website and we can all see how you really feel.

re: the post "shut up already..." Where's the civility? I'm a bit confused why you care to look at a website that obviously irritates you so much.

Now, whether that was a factor in this tragedy, I wouldn't begin to speculate. I do know the Pope's are some of the finest people I've ever met and my prayers are with them!

"Little Man"?

Who is the coward that is hiding?

Oh, and for the record, the website that O'brien set up against me is Enloearchives.com.

If you think I am afraid of it or you, think again.

Let me know when you want to debate this on video.I have no doubt I will be waiting for...eternity.

You will lose regardless.

The #1 priority of a governing body is the safety of it's populace.

Milton is failing miserably due to the lack of officers hired.

It is unfortunate that you think those that live in one way are more important than those that live in another.

And for the record, the wreck took place amongst houses zoned AG1; not commercial.

I am right here, 'Genius.'

This has nothing to do with an open road or a subdivision road. At this point no one knows how this accident happened. This person could have had a heart attack, swerved to avoid a deer or whatever. There are trees in subdivisions also. Tim, you have to stop this. You are irrational. No matter how many police officers we have in Milton, they cannot be everyplace all the time, and probably would not have been on Birmingham Hwy. waiting for someone to have an accident that would take 2 peoples lives. I just hope and pray this family does not read your article.

Tim Enloe said...

You people are missing the point.

Before I continue, I didn't write any of the articles - other news sources did. What I did was leave a comment to someone who chose to call me out.

Facts are facts. The Editor's note is FACT. Sometimes, people don't like hearing the FACTS because they go against the false reality of what they CHOOSE to believe. However, the FACTS are the FACTS.

Re the subdivision / open road reference, in my view ALL Milton residents are neighbors. I have good friends in both, actually. The point of what I have referenced is that even though all eight fatalities have taken place in the ORNS of Milton, our elected body continues to spend money on the subdivision speed enforcement and park directors. Sort of like putting a bandage on your knee when you have a nose bleed.

Everyone drives the open road neighborhoods; not everyone drives in the subdivision neighborhoods.

I wish all eight wrecks never occured more than you know. I feel terrible for this family. For those that truly know me, you are aware that I have been where this family is now. To say that it is Hell is putting it mildly.

However, I have no desire to go down Hell Road again. My #1 priority is keeping the family that I have left free from harm and safe. With that, the council needs to wake up and make the ORNS safer for all.

Bottom line; the more officers on the roads, the safer everyone is including those who are going after me here as well as their loved ones.

I would NEVER wish the loss of a family member in this way to ANYONE; regardless if they are known to like me or hate me.

This is a travesty, honestly. The point here is that a man and his son died horribly and needlessly, as has happened too many times since our city was founded. The honest to God truth is that people go far too fast down our roads, rural or not. Do people speed in subdivisions? I bet if you sat with a radar gun in some of these neighborhoods you would find that people are on the average of 5 mph over the limit there-- and most likely 10 mph on the open road.

Does Mr. Enloe have an agenda here? Perhaps-- I mean, we've all seen the videos he has posted of people tailgating him and speeding down his road-- but does that mean he is wrong or doesn't have the right to? Hey, it's his sandbox and we all get to play in it. And, frankly, he has a point. Not that long ago I was physically threatened by a man that had tailgated me all the way down a local road and accused me of going slower then he and purposefully slowing down-- nevermind that I was driving the speed limit and slowed down in a school zone, but that's beside the point. We have some people in this town that need to understand that they should follow the law, no matter what they drive. And, frankly, it might serve the MPD to spend a little more time working on speeders along some of the open roads and a little less working over their speed traps on Deerfield. And yes "Genius", more cops on the road in certain areas DO make a difference. Several generations of good old fashioned southern speed traps attest to that.

I think that someone has missed the point of what happened here, and it isn't Tim.

And, for the record, it is p-r-e-c-i-o-u-s.

How about we put this on the shelf for a while and think about the family and its loss. Too much to ask?

People Speed, whether it is on an open road or subdivision.. Not even 40 police officers can be everywhere all the time. Tim, why don't you do an article about what you think the City of Milton and the Milton Police Officers could do to stop the speeders on the open roads. I'm not sure they can do anymore than they are doing.

I will be watching out for your article.

If this website is so stupid and hardly anyone visits it, then you are one of the stupid people who visits it regularly.

Any discussion about how to make our roads safer for all people who travel them, is a good thing.

Tim

You make several good points. Irrational people can not handle the truth so they criticize.
The raging 5:26pm poster is lacking. After reading the response to you it is obvious this is just a personal attack.

It is a shame that such a tragedy pulls out crazies like poster 5:26pm.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I did use a power point presentation last January in my plea to city council.

The goal was to make the ORNS safer for all.

If you like, I can post some of the suggestions from that.

Please let me know.

Gentlemen,

I can appreciate both stances. With your permission let's please stop with the bantering for the moment. While this is certainly a topic for debate I would like to request that both of you show respect and pray for Bill's family. Perhaps that is something we can all agree to do. Bill was a former colleague and friend of mine. This tragedy is going to effect his wife and daughter for the rest of their lives. In this day and age all of this will be seen and read by the family and while you certainly have the freedom to speak your opinions which I truly respect I would just ask you to put yourselves in the shoes of the family. If you could find it in your heart to think of Bill, his son Bryce, his wife Jane and their daughter Madison that would be special. Bill was charismatic, intelligent and fun to be with. He was a friend you could count on when in need. This is such a great loss and I am so sorry. Our prayers are with the Pope family.

Tim:

Totally agree 100%.

I lost my brother on his 25th birthday as he drove down Mayfield.

He lost control and hit a telephone pole.

Suffice to say, I have been there but it doesn't make it any easier for those suffering now.

Since I heard about the accident, I have thought about them often and feel terrible for the surviving family.

If there is anything I can do to help, all you have to do is ask.

Tim - do you have any details on how they decided on the new speed limits around Milton? I notice that Bethany Bend up to Hopewell is now 40, and Hopewell coming up from Alpharetta is 35. Furthermore - When Hopewell becomes Francis -it is 40 - but for that stretch of Hopewell from Alpharetta to Francis it is still 45?? Any clue why they left it that way?

There seems to have been quite a number of wrecks at Bethany Bend and Hopewell too - mostly as a result of cars coming north way too fast for the cars entering Hopewell. I sure wish they would have lowered the limit here as well!
