"Buckhead Ed", Atlanta Liberals Snuff Out Milton County in 2010.

By Maggie Lee / Beacon Media

Milton County is dead for the year, as the clock hits midnight on its last chance for 2010. It was an unholy between a myopic Buckhead Republican and the Black legislative Caucus that stalled the resolution for at least another session.

"Buckhead Ed" Lindsey, the only Republican House member representing Atlanta and a contingent of liberal Democrat legislators from inside the perimeter blocked Milton county from getting on the 2010 statewide ballot. Supporters of HR 21, the constitutional amendment to create the county, didn't quite have the two-thirds super-majority they needed on "Crossover Day" to pass the resolution, and they ran out of time. Backers say they were very close to garnering the 120 votes they needed when the clock struck midnight.

"It was close, but it wasnt close enough for a vote. It was a great attempt. We kept whipping. We came pretty close. We had some people change their votes. It was a valiant effort," lamented a fatigued Rep. Joe Wilkinson (R-Sandy Springs).

"Crossover Day" is the last day for legislation to pass one state legislative chamber or the other. The initiative slipped away before there was any debate on the resolution that could have started Milton on the path to secession.

The House attempted to handle nearly fifty pieces of legislation in fourteen hours, an impossible task; Milton didn't make the cut.

"I don't know what they were doing, but I know what I was doing: lobbying against it," said Rep. Ralph Long (D-Atlanta.)

House Speaker Pro-Tem Jan Jones (R-Milton) had pledged to bring the resolution to the floor if she had the votes, and Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) was helping her. But opinion was bearish under the Gold Dome all day.

The legislature will now take a week's vacation. Afterward, each chamber will start hearing bills received from the opposite side of the capitol. The session will end in ten working days.

The future of the Fulton County Republican Party is now in question, as a large contingent of members, the bulk of which are in North Fulton County, want to create there own "Milton County Republican Party" and abandon the Fulton organization. "Why have a Party when we can't even stand together on this fundamental issue," said one GOP elected official, who preferred anonymity. Another legislator said the "The Lindsey Alliance" was like the Hitler-Stalin Pact of 1939. "Ed did us in. He doesn't represent me. He has to go."

Like the Hitler-Stalin Pact of 1939?

Really people?? We're Poland all of a sudden? And who exactly are Hitler and Stalin in this scenario? What a bunch of drama queens.

And we punish Ed because he's trying to watch out for his constituents, whose taxes would absolutely skyrocket if they get left behind in Fulton. That's wrong why?

Why do North Fulton taxes have to fund all of South Fulton? What's wrong with that? Everything. Nanny State. Entitlements, hand outs, etc. that is what is wrong with this frikkin country. Take care of yourself, and quit relying on others to give you a hand out. That includes South Fulton. We need to VOTE them all out in Georgia as well people! What starts here ends up in our Federal Goverment. Time to take control of our country again and get it back to our Constitutional roots, which does not include handouts, entitlements, and socialism whatsoever.

Punish Ed, heck yeah. With that mentality, why not make all of Georgia residents fund South Fulton then, lets all share in the responsibility of maintaining the City of Atlanta and share the responsibility people!! Isn't that fair??

6:24...It's the Obama way baby! I only wish I could remove the drive to succeed and provide for my family from my DNA and become a lazy deadbeat leech firmly attached and suckling to the guvment teat! I would certainly get more sleep.

6:26/ Lindsey just saved N. Fulton from the pack of ambitious pols scrambling to feed off of a new county, especially some yo-yos on the Milton council and mayors of J.C. and Roswel. You have no idea what the costs would be; get informed and then publish a comment that is worth reading.

7:30 Liberal. When the Country goes bankrupt then who are you going to steal from? Oh and it will come on this Obama/Pelosi path. Go live in the UK since you love socialism so much, or Canada. See what it's really like to not have individual freedom and be locked into a government state of entitlement and handouts. Once sucked in, you never get out. Takes too much energy and effort, and the people in socialist countries would rather live with mediocracy and government control then stand up to it. Why, because they Never had True Freedom ever, and don't know what it's like to have fought for it.

It all starts on a local level. Race is not the issue with N and S Fulton, it's money. The County is divided and so is our Country. Divide and conquer is what Obama is doing to our nation. Divide on race, divide on income, and make everyone against eachother, then conquer. The average Tyrant knows that basic strategy.

Are you calling 7:30PM a liberal?

Did your handler, Karen/Susan Thurman, tell you to use the duck reference?

Yes, I do everything she says.

So, what you are saying is that it IS NOT okay for North Fulton to support the rest of the county, but IT IS okay for the rest of the state to support establishing Milton County? Yeah... that makes sense...

6:26/ All readers thank you for all the "economic data" you provided with the same old tired drivel. You just proved 7;30's point. Stop digging when you are at the bottom of well.
