Event sponsors Milton Grows Green looking for volunteers
MILTON, GA., March 2, 2010 - Milton's first Earth Day Festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 17 at Birmingham Park.
The event, sponsored by The Milton Grows Green Committee (MGG), will feature information about existing and future environmental projects and programs in Milton. Outside vendors of environmental products and services will be included, along with park tours, a display of the winners of an environmental art competition and hands-on demonstrations. In addition, restaurants that follow and promote sustainable practices will have booths, alongside information about sustainable packaging and farm-to-table menu ingredients.
"We are excited to have this wonderful opportunity to present information about the benefits of better environmental choices that are available to Milton residents," said Gina Schwendel, MGG program coordinator. "We realize that there's a lot of talk about 'going green,' and we value this opportunity to show people that sustainable, environmentally friendly choices are available now."
Schwendel said providing a better quality of living now and in the future is possible at lower costs and with little effort. All it takes is a group to show others the way.
"Education and community are such a vital part of MGG's mission, and I can't think of a better setting for them than a spring Saturday in our beautiful 205-acre park," she said.

"April 22 will mark the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, which began as a celebration of the environment and an occasion for environmental education," said Jon McPhail, one of MGG's co-chairs. "We felt that, given Milton's beautiful natural landscape and its vision of preserving our rural heritage, this was just a natural fit with our educational programs. It is also an opportunity to showcase Birmingham Park, which is a great natural resource for Milton residents."
