Milton Remembers 9/11.

At the September 7 City Council meeting, Council Member Alan Tart, along with the mayor and his fellow council members, proclaimed Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The proclamation was received by members of the Milton Police and Fire Departments, veterans, and family members of veterans or active duty military, including Ms. Tammy Kimsey, a Milton resident whose son-in-law is a naval aviator on the USS Ronald Reagan which has been flying combat missions over Afghanistan.

Tart said the proclamation was inspired by an idea that Ms. Kimsey had to challenge her neighborhood of Avensong and all City of Milton residents to display American flags this weekend in observance of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011 attacks on America.

The proclamation was dedicated to those who lost their lives or were injured in the attacks of 9/11 and the many who gave (and continue to give) of themselves in service to their communities and to the country in the aftermath of the attacks. It calls on all Milton citizens and organizations to consider participating in the National Day of Service and Remembrance by engaging in activities of tribute, solemn remembrance, and charitable service and displaying US flags at half-staff from sunrise to sunset.

The City of Milton will join the City of Alpharetta on Sept. 11 for the “We Remember” ceremony at Alpharetta Public Safety headquarters in City of Alpharetta Memorial Park located at 2565 Old Milton Parkway. The event begins at 1:30 p.m. Click here for more information. "We invite our residents to attend this ceremony and come together as a community to remember the bravery of our first responders on that infamous day," said Mayor Joe Lockwood. "Our hope is to simply do our part in remembering the lives of all those lost in the attacks."

At the September 7 City Council meeting, the city welcomed Coach Ron Hill to its fine group of city volunteers. Council Member Alan Tart appointed Coach Hill to fill the vacancy left by Sandy Shelly's departure from the PRAB. The city thanks Sandy for several years of hard work and thoughtful service.

He currently serves as the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Student Life at The Atlanta Sports Academy in Dawsonville, GA. Daughter Megan is studying at Virginia Wesleyan College and is a member of their nationally ranked women's softball team. Son Aaron attends the University of Maryland. should have been inspired by an overzealous hoa prez to make up for his trying to remove a flag that he mistaked for a towel

whatever happened to the saying that he who is without sin throw the first stone? No one is perfect. A mistake was made, for sure. However it's doubtful anyone who is a true American regardless of party affiliation is anti-American or anti-veteran.

Alan, the voters gave their support but you failed them. Too little, too late.

Alan is as honest a person as you will meet, so you must not know him. He always keeps his word, so support and trust are safe with Alan. He's got my vote.

i support the families of us troops but he apparently doesnt

I know alan and agree, too little, too late. he had his chance.

It is absurd to associate Alan's carrying out of his responsibilities as HOA president with not supporting troops. A leader doesn't get to pick and choose on enforcement. They have to follow the rules. Of course he supports the troops.

This is exactly why he should be reelected as City Councilman. He enforces the rules and will protect Milton's mission and vision - no special interest interference.

@ anonymous 5:34 AM poster: It’s been 2 months since the flag issue so you may not recall that news coverage of the story generated a viewer to clarify that the US code regarding flags supersedes the HOA rules. Immediate families of military members on active duty can display service flags in their windows.

That makes perfect sense. The point is, that he believed that he was carrying out his responsibility.

If that makes perfect sense to you, then the point is, you would have done several critical things differently, in carrying out your responsibility.

John Klein- are you really still disgruntled because the HOA asked you to fly your flag from your porch like everyone else or give them info you refused to provide but you chose instead to run to WSB to make a name for yourself? Really? What a freakin' baby. Nobody cares! Get over yourself and do something to contribute to your community! Alan has been involved in making this community and city a better place since he moved here. What have you done besides contact news media and spend your spare time on this blog in your sad quest to bash Alan. Get a life!

If that makes perfect sense to you, then the point is, you would have done several critical things differently, in carrying out your responsibility.
1. You would have googled "US flag code" yourself, instead of referring to s superseded HOA rule.
2. You would have said what you meant and meant what you said, instead of saying kind words about my son's sevice and then trying to berate me after I shared them with him.
3. You would have not been so willing to throw out the proverbial baby with the dirty bathwater.
4. You would have apologized.

I feel sorry for Klein, in my opionion his comments seem selfish and self centered and I pray for him to release that negative energy/grudge and challenge him to turn negativity to something positive and good for someone in need. Always remember, bad Karma always comes back to bite you, and thats a fact.
Peace
