October 31, 2011
MILTON, Ga. -- As expected, the Fulton County Board of Education is recommending the new high school in the city of Milton be named Cambridge High School. That name received the most votes from the naming committee last month, and traditionally the board accepts the top name.

Providence High School was the second choice of the committee.

The motion was approved for first reading at the Board's Oct. 20 meeting, and will be officially approved at the Nov. 17 meeting after sitting for 30 days before the community.

The motion for first read was approved with little comment from board members, aside from Katie Reeves, the board member who represents the area. She said high school redistrictings and namings are often an emotional time for a community.

"But at the end of the day, [the committee] considered over 30 names, but [came together] very quickly to focus on these two names," said Reeves. "I look forward to getting the naming accomplished and move forward with the colors and mascots so we can begin rallying the community behind [Principal] Ed Spurka."

The name "Cambridge" represents the communities of Cogburn, Alpharetta and Milton, along with the bridge that is present on the high school site.

A wonderful name for our new high school. Thank you Fulton County Board of Education.

Did not know there were Bronco horses in Cambridge, England. Very underthought, stupid name and mascot.

Sounds like a name for a cheap subdivision trying to sell to aspirations of prestige.

I like the sound of Cambridge High School. Go Bears!

Cambridge comes from 12th century England and one of its meanings comes from a river in England named "Cam" River which is crooked and winding.

Not sure how a Bear, Bronco, or Jaguar represent the root and historical meaning of this name, one would think a "Board of Education" would attempt to make the mascot correlate to the name somehow.

They named it after Crooked Creek.

Cambridge has everything to do with Milton don't you know. Look how they explained how they came up with it. C-A-M
And don't you know they ride Bronco's in Yorkshire as well? Actually I think they ride Burros. Maybe the mascot should have been a burro or donkey? just sayin'!
Gee people you don't see how this all goes together?

ME Either!

Dear BOE,

For the first time in a long time, please overrule the Naming committee vote and pick Providence for the name if we can't have Milton in the name. For Pete's sake, you've named every other school out here for a road in Milton, stay with it and name it Providence pahleeeeeeeze!

It makes much more sense to name it North Milton High School because it is located in the City of Milton and is ever so slightly north of Milton High School which was named after Milton Avenue in Alpharetta which used to be located in Milton County which was named after John Milton who was born in England and never had anything to do with Milton, Georgia.

11:03 AM You are just a tad confused. When Milton & Fulton counties merged in 1932, the street was Cemetery Street. In the sixties or seventies, the street was renamed Milton Ave. So the School came first.

Let's go Hollywood - Milton 2 - the freakquel...

Most of the students won't be able to spell either name, so it really doesn't matter which one is picked.

Well, let's name it Cherokee High School since the dawg gone land belonged to them anyway. Give it a mascot of an Indian Chief and call it a day.

How about Omega High School? Alpharetta gets "Alpha" we are the "Omega".

Works for me.
We are the back end are we not in Milton of all the north fulton cities?
Keep on asking the media to come out to our city and report insignificant stupid stuff like the naming of a school and now the mascot naming, and we will continue to be the laughing stock of all the Fulton County cities. Thanks WC! You are embarassing your town, get over the name and mascot already. You are too late and a dollar short to do anything about it now so stop your whining!

What a bunch of whining losers! Get over it already! I hope your children are more mature.
