High school Naming Poll Now Closed.

By Accessmilton.com

While the poll regarding the name of the new high school has closed, questions continue to arise on both sides of the arguement.

As we have stated numerous times, our polls can be manipulated if you know what to do. However, they are normally a pretty good litmus test of what the majority of voters are feeling.

Keep an eye on Accessmilton.com as we continue to follow this story.

Hallelujah ! The 2nd poll that states what the city of Milton residents want. However, nothing will be done. Spurka is a big talker and politician and the Board of Education lives 45 miles away. They do not care about us here in Milton. It is a waste of time for us to even discuss this topic because of them. They will not listen to anybody's rational thoughts let alone a town's thoughts. What a shame because this is the second poll with a huge one way vote in favor of having Milton. I guess our town is not being heard again. First it was the re-districting and now it is the name.

Oh please, you expect us city people to fall for this one?

many thanks to all the stupid people who proved travis right that people cant read a map or tell directions because the school is in the southeast corner of the city

Many thanks to Travis for displaying to us how wrong and misinformed he really is. You are actually wrong ....Look at googlemaps in relation to where Milton HS is. The new high school will be located in Milton. The new school is NORTH of Milton HS...it may be slightly east and Northeast of the high school. Regardless, it includes the name of the city where the school is located. The school is located in Milton,GA, not Cambridge,MA, or England or Providence, Rhode Island. The sad thing is that the new redistricting will deteriorate ever so slowly the great Milton HS.I have seen this happen in 2 towns that I lived in before. the so called original HS starts to deteriorate because the good teachers are brought over to the new HS and people tend to hear "new" and believe it means better which is not always the case. However, the redistricting will bring it down as Roswell has some areas going to Milton where there are perennial gang activities. Not a lot, but enough to bring in trouble , plus losing half the kids who dominate the academics and sports are leaving to go to MACBeth HS or whatever they will call it

I never called anyone stupid, and I never disputed that the new school location is North of the current Milton High School.

All I stated was that on a map, the school is in the Southeast corner of the city.

Again, I never made any comments about the relationship between the latitude and longitude of the two locations.

My opinion is that a direction is used to point out where a school lies within a city or county, not where it lies in relation to another school.

I kinda like what worked before.

Name the new school Milton and name the existing one "Old Milton."

HA! Wouldn't that go over like a lead balloon?

Or how about renaming Milton, "New Roswell," since that is where all the students are coming from.

We could go based on campus size and name it "Little Milton," or maybe "Tight Milton."

The possibilities are endless!

The intentions of building a new school in Milton was to remove most of the kids from MHS to make room for the overcrowding of AHS and RHS. This was the plan from the beginning. No matter where they put that school "in Milton" they were going to redistrict us out of MHS anyway. Get your arms wrapped around that. The next redistricting will occur when they build the new middle school, and then again, Northwestern and Crabapple Elementary will mostly represent, as MHS will, Alpharetta and Roswell students. Get it people!!! Milton is the whipping post for schools because we have a council that won't even say a peep about where they put the schools out here, let alone ask the question, who are they building the schools for. The over population of the students of the city of Milton, or the overpopulation of Alpharetta and Roswell schools? Build the schools where the need is and where the kids are and then the residents in Milton can stop arguing. You are not each other's enemies, its the BOE and our City officials who need to be held accountalbe for the fiascos.

Everytime they build a school in Milton (supposedly for us), they move in more and more kids from Alpharetta and Roswell to go to the schools in our city. The land they purchase is lost tax revenue for the City of Milton. You light your hair on fire over the "naming" of a school, yet where was this overwhelming passion and enthusiasm in stopping the school from being built in our city anyway? It's amazing how "involved" and "righteous" this group of people are over the naming of it. But you said nothing, not a peep, when it comes to continued lost tax reveune for our city, while the BOE builds schools for students from other cities in our city boundaries. That my friends is an atrosity. Find your priorities. They are county schools, however is it fair for the one city to lose revenue to build schools for kids from other cities? I think it is unfair for Milton to brunt the lost tax revenue.

So the BOE used SPLOST dollars (generated primarily at Alpharetta's stores) to build another fabulous high school in Milton. That's an atrocity? Get a grip.

I do not think a new high school was needed...Milton HS was will to expand the school and so was Roswell....besides it would have saved taxpayers a lot of money

12:21... you got it, and you didn't even recognize it. "Fabulous Milton."

New Poll - Is this poll is a joke? A. Yes
B. Hell Yes

Anonymous said...

Here is a new name for you - Carpetbagger High School. Nickname: Cougars (since there are plenty of two-legged ones roaming around Milton.

Yes it is an atrocity for one city to continue to lose tax revenue for students in other cities. Does Alpharetta or Roswell pay for our roads, infrastructure, road improvements, new turn lanes, new traffic lights which these schools create and demand in our city? NO. What about the lost property tax per acre we are losing? Not an atrocity? If Milton kids filled both schools than no one would complain about the schools being built here but our kids were shuffled out of "fabulous" Milton into a new school for NO reason. Sorry you are really misinformed or ignorant.

Alpharetta is not upset at all to occupy Milton High School, after all it was theirs anyway before Milton became it's own city. they have squatters rights don't you know. Roswell on the other hand does not want to come to Milton or Alpharetta schools. So essentially they gave MHS back to Alpharetta and kicked us out of MHS building us a school with a stupid name and now a stupid mascot, without our true input.

It's a kick in the face for becoming Milton in the first place.
Alpharetta was going to get their school back one way or another. Who has more influence on the FCBOE Alpharetta City Hall and it's residents or Milton City Hall and it's residents. Do you really think that the FCBOE would just plop a school anywhere they wanted in Alpharetta or Roswell without going to the council first and looking at their infrastructure issues, traffic issues, and long term city plans? Oh hell yes they would, but not in Milton. They push us around like a little girl on the playground.

Abolish the city charter for the "city" of Milton. It is one big mistake!

Where is the SHERIFF, aka MoM, you know the one who sold you people on the creation of the city of Milton?

Anonymous said...

I think we should honor/recognize all of the dope-smoking at Milton and name the new school Ridgemont High.

love it. The poll speaks for itself. landslide victory for the North milton contingent. Regardless, it shows 2 out of 3 people in the second poll in a row watn Milton in the name. Where is our beloved BOE rep now Karen Reeves, stating "Everybody does not want Milton." where was her data? where was Andrea Marcheesey? They both are the Milton equivalent of Bernie Madoff. Maria Marchese and Karen Reeves in the new musical, "The Madoff Twins." if you ain't cheating you ain't trying? There is a thing called karma people...karma...

The train has left the station.

and the karma is headed towards some people's way ...too funny. how embarassing that our community picked a name that means nothing to our community.....

You know, as stated by the administer of the poll, the poll can be manipulated. It obviosly was manipulated by Paul Nickels and his possy of 6 voting over and over and over because they have nothing better to do like TAKE CARE OF THIER OWN FAMILIES. Get a life people. News alert: The world won't end with the name, mascot or colors of a school if it is not what YOU want.
