Milton-based North River Landscaping recently began caring for the green scape of Milton High School's property along Birmingham Highway, alleviating the strain on the school's maintenance staff, said Tracey Eller, a parent volunteer who coordinates care for the school's grounds.
The road frontage is maintained through the state's "Adopt-A-Highway" program, similar to the city's own, since the city does not own or service Birmingham Highway.
In addition to Milton, North River also maintains an Adopt -A-Road mile at Hardscrabble Road and the newly refurbished playing field at Hembree Springs Elementary.
"The North River Philosophy encompasses a strong work ethic and giving back to the community," said Joy O'Bert, a representative from the company. "We take great pride in working and helping in the community."
