It's sad when you can be kicked out for wearing the flag, showing patriotism. That said, if the kids were in fact antagonizing the Hispanics, as some have alleged, while wearing the shirts on such a day, then the principal was fully justified. You don't wear the flag like a gang sign.
Wearing the American flag is a patriotic and freedom of speach right.
I find it interesting that numerous races of various backgrounds have immigrated LEGALLY to the United States over the years and you don't see them stepping on the American flag and flying their country of origins.
Bottom Line; if you don't like America; then leave.
You don't wear something to intentionally incite violence.
The right to free speech doesn't give you the right to walk into a crowded theater and yell "fire!"
The principal would have had every right to kick kids out for purposely inciting violence, but not for simply wearing the flag.
That being said, there are many that feel that wearing the flag is not showing the proper respect for it.
You don't see people running around and protesting all those that have flags in poor condition flying in front of their businesses do you? No, it's a double standard.
...and that being said. I have no problem with folks that live in this country legally, and most people don't. I think that's what everyone wants to conveniently forget in this issue. It's not an issue with legal immigrants, its an issue with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS!
This is America First. If they say they have the right to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, the Independence day of "their nation", then they should go back home to "their nation" since they are plainly stating America is NOT their nation. Asking illegals to become legal, and pay taxes is not racial. Wearing the American Flag as a t-shirt is Patriotic, no matter what day of the year it is. If Mexican children live in America, attend American schools for free off of the backs of tax paying American citizens, and reap the freedoms and opportunities provided to every tax paying American citizen in this country then show some respect or vacate the premises.
If the American Flag offends you in your own country, then maybe you need to go find another country.
The kids wearing the flags were half American half Mexican and their parents are Mexican Americans who are legal citizens of this country. Them displaying their American pride by wearing the American flag tshirt is not inciting violence. There is a major problem in this country if wearing the American flag anytime is offensive to any race. Division is being created by that stupid hyphen. We are all Americans firsst are we not. When we defend our nation in war we are all Americans. We are not X- Americans fighting for our country. When we all see each other as one, united, as one group, then the infighting will stop. But the goal is to divide and conquer, create chaos and then control the country, because the Government will need to step in and keep the peace, when the Government is the one creating the division between races and wealth.
Would someone remind those students that they attend school in the United States of America. America is a country who's open mindedness has been hijacked. Those views, religions, and lifestyles which our Consititution provides for people to pursue their own happiness, has been taken advantage of, and now they want to completely change our constitution and throw all the conservative Christians, the moral majority, out of the country which conservative Christians created, for everyone, to live as they please, without government interference, you know, what's that word.....oh yeah, Free!
And therein lies the debate, You had to insert "Christian". That was then, this is now. Those same good hearted loving Christains created this mess then if you go way back? I don't think so. Get the religion thing out of your head. Then call yourself an American. Love God. Great. But those darn Native Americans did too back then before then. They still do. And they were here first, weren't they? The White man took it. That's history. Sorry, I'm just sensitive about religion getting into the discussion. A-g-a-I-n. That's personal. We are free.
Let the Mexicans wear their shirts. Who cares. If you're French, wear one of those on Bastille Day. If your African and celebrate Kwanza, celebrate it.
This news story is about how the Principal and community reacted backwards in such a forward thinking state. This is a SOCIAL issue. Those kids are Christian too.

The principal WAS NOT JUSTIFIED.

Tim, you've missed the point of the first poster.

On some of your points I agree; while others we will have to agree to disagree but I appreciate the input.
