MDAC hosts visually impaired issues forum.

Empish Thomas to speak at Aug. 16 meeting.

MILTON, Ga., Aug. 3, 2011 - The Milton Disability Awareness Committee (MDAC) will host a "Community Link" forum at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 featuring a speaker from the Atlanta Center for the Visually Impaired (CVI).

The open forum will take place in City Council Chambers at Milton's City Hall, 13000 Deerfield Parkway, Suite 107E. Everyone is invited, and there is no RSVP required.

Empish Thomas, Public Education and Referral Specialist for CVI, will discuss and present a video highlighting the group's work, including a low-vision clinic, rehabilitation programs, support groups, counselors and other services tailored to different age groups and needs.

Thomas will also answer questions and suggest tips, strategies and tools for living with visual impairment.

"We are truly fortunate for this opportunity to learn from Ms. Thomas' background and experience," said Kennard Woods, vice chairman of MDAC. "This program is a 'must' for those living with and relating to visual impairment and who want to facilitate and enjoy more independent lifestyles and integrated communities."

MDAC promotes inclusion of persons of all abilities in every aspect of community life through education, advocacy and influence on public policy. The committee meets on the first Wednesday of each month. For more information, visit www.cityofmiltonga.us.
