Milton firefighters have passed last year’s totals for fundraising in the 2011 Fill the Boot Drive for the MDA, taking in $50, 907.18.

This year’s total reflects five days of collections, with A shift raising $11,878.19 from passing motorists Aug. 12. There is still one day of collections left on Sept. 2, and it will also be carried out by A shift, said Fire Chief Robert Edgar.

“In a year that has already been a struggle due to natural disasters and the economy, it is a huge relief to see how giving the citizens of Milton have been,” said Angela Brown, fundraising coordinator for the MDA. “On behalf of our patients, thank you, thank you and thank you for helping us reach for a cure!”
Last year Milton was second in the state in fundraising, bringing in more than $48,000.

In just four years, the City of Milton Fire Department has raised more than $161,000 for MDA, which uses the money to aid local children and adults affected by neuromuscular diseases by providing wheelchairs, leg braces, clinic visits, support groups and a chance for children to attend Camp Walk-N-Roll.
