SUPPORT LIBERTY'S LAW!

Now's the time to build a community.

One of the things our residents are always proud of, and people outside the city limits amazed by, is the commitment of Miltonians to get together for a cause. I am truly thankful we have such an engaged populace. Its public discourse is one of this city's points of pride.

Now that summer has arrived (on the school calendar at least) the time to strengthen this community even more is upon us. Georgia's long summer days mean neighborhood and homeowner pool parties, cookouts, baseball games and more. I can't think of a better time to reach out to someone you might not know and invite them into your life.

Those relationships are what make this city great -- they give us something other communities just don't have these days. In a world where iPhones, Facebook and whatever else is around the bend have connected us all in very interesting but superficial ways, Milton has something you just can't replicate, no matter how powerful your iPad: face-to-face contact.

Maybe you'll meet a new friend when your child attends one of the cities beloved equestrian camps. That's a pretty tight knit community already, so if you're looking for some good folks to pass the time with, I'd start there.

Perhaps your families can enjoy recreation at one of our parks or dinner at one of our local restaurants featuring patio seating. Of course, don't forget that summer staple, the ice cream cone, afterward. We've got a few choice creameries in this fair city that I know I enjoy. I'm sure you will, too.

With vacations, summer camps and all those parties, I certainly don't want to keep you inside - you'll never meet anyone new there. So I'll keep it brief this month.

As always, swing by City Hall anytime and one of the friendly staff members will answer any questions you might have and even take you on a tour if you have the time.

Sincerely,

Mayor Joe Lockwood

What can Milton families enjoy at Providence or Birmingham Parks?

What a crock of s*!$ What parks? What recreation? What restaurants to sit out at? What community are you building? Are you referring to the revenue generation machine Milton as become? Is it the same "community" that has police speed and DUI traps all over the city? Is it the same community that has more traffic congestion today than ever before? Milton is closer to a Nazi police state than a "community". Many of us "Miltononians" have come to hate this city and want what we had before the City of Milton ever existed. Give us something better, give us a real community not a police state!

I'm afraid to stop by city hall to see our alleged "mayor" because I might get stopped by the police or given a parking or speeding ticket!

Who writes this stuff?

"Police state?"

Awwww,puddin...

Some itty bitty little man-e wane must a gotta tiket cuz he was drinkin' and a speedin' in front of somebody's house.

My little boy loves the police - he calls them "the super good guys" and he is right.

Typical comments from a smother and cover "helicopter" parent. Are you really that naive? No tickets for me as I know better, but many of my neighbors, friends, and their children have been victims of the Milton police state. Just wait until your little babies grow up and become their next "cash cows", I mean victims, and you'll understand. The Milton police are not the good guys. Protect and Screw, not protect and serve!

Interesting comments from a post about building a community.

6:44 - I am curious; what should the Milton Police be doing if not enforcing the laws on the books?
Isn't that what we pay them to do?

Not trying to anger; simply trying to understand.

There's a bunch of whining going on here. If you don't speed, run through four way stops and drink & drive, then you will not get a ticket. Instead of whining, try setting an example for your kids.

Read the Milton Herald and see how many people were arrested for DUI in Milton recently. Some of those arrested are from this fair city. Thanks to our Milton police officers for getting these drunks off our streets!

In the good old days - your local cops checked your address on your license and sent you home with a simple goodnight. The out of towners covered the DUI and Ticket quotas.

Anonymous said...

Yeah well can you justify that "simple goodnight" to the drunk that killed my 17 year old daughter?

I thought in America, and quite possibly the city of Milton too, you were innocent, until proven guilty. So for those who think all the people listed in the paper each week were all guilty simply because their names appeared in the paper, join the rest of us in the real world. Most get off with a very heavy fine which helps stuff the city and state coffers because all of us are too cheap to pony up in the form of real taxes to pay for all the things we want including parks, recreation, roads, schools, etc. So, we find ways to rip the money out of our citizens to make up for all the budget shortfalls. Overly aggressive police activiy in a small town is one of the oldest games. We can and should be better as a city and need to find more honorable ways to fund our city.

You're either drunk, over the legal limit, or you are not. I would imagine our cops are performing sobriety tests and determining who is over the limit.
So stop bashing our cops for doing what we want in Milton, a safe and pleasant place for our kids to grow up in.

This is America and I think if you want to drink and drive in Milton you should have the freedom to do so. As far as the poster that lost their daughter I say there are too many kids here anyways.just look at all the issues with the high school and sort.

Parents if you want to keep your kids then keep them home and not out on the streets with all the drunks.

I am offended by the above drunk driver! Is this Travis's father?

OK, forget a moment about whether the Milton Police are good or bad and let's address the real issue which is this...how are we better off since the City of Milton was formed? And please don't cop out and just say because we have our own police and fire which make us "safer" than we were before (the "safety issue" is highly debatable as we were already a very safe area before Milton formed). Answer with some real issues like traffic congestion, ugly overbuilding of strip plaza's, a highway 9 corridor which is just about as ugly and disfunctional as any road in the USA, lack of parks, rec facilities, green spaces, bike lanes and paths, community centers, etc. Come on people, after almost five years, how are we really better? I'm willing to pay for a better Milton, i.e. raise my taxes. Are you?

Drive on and look at Buford Highway or Memorial Drive (both in Dekalb County) before you say Highway 9 through Milton is ugly or dysfunctional.

Anonymous said...

6:54AM, surely you are kidding..."raise my taxes." That is the stock answer for all government problems. If we had a competent group in place, it might work. With the dis-functional clowns in Milton no amount of money will solve the problem.

the "greenies" want to raise your taxes. You could take all the solar panels and windmills on planet earth and combine their energy for one day, and they wouldn't produce as much energy as one coal mine does in one day. Someone is living in dream land.

Do you actually have to clean up a road to get the adopt a road sign put in your organizations name? If so, I've never saw Bill Lusk cleaning up Redd Road, and I live on Redd.
