LONGORIA KICKOFF TURNS OUT 80 ENTHUSIASTS

Milton Council candidate and political neophyte Joe Longoria turned out about 80 guests at his campaign kick-off fundraiser early this week in Milton at El Azteca Restaurant on Highway 9. Longoria’s crowd was mostly from the Crooked Creek subdivision, where he has overwhelming support. This bodes well for the newcomer. Incumbents Bill Lusk and Karen Thurman, both running for re-election attended, but are staying officially neutral in the race. Longoria is looking to oust embattled incumbent Tina D’Aversa in District 5.

LOCKWOOD’S GAMBLE: TRADES TWO FOR ONE

Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood placed his bet down and now he’s stuck with it. Trying to keep his majority of four votes on the Milton city council, Lockwood has endorsed Bill Lusk, Karen Thurman and Tina D’Aversa for re-election. The truth of the matter is that Lockwood needs Lusk and Thurman to win. D’Aversa – who sided against him the majority of the time in the past two years when there was a contested vote – is a throwaway endorsement. Lockwood’s policy positions and vision for Milton is much closer to Longoria’s. But he gambled and backed D’Aversa to gain political cover: he can say he is supporting “all the incumbents” for “unity and consistency” while appearing statesmanlike and not overtly partisan. But the fact of the matter is he is better off if Longoria wins, and he knows it. So we doubt he will do much for D’Aversa, apart from showing up at her events and paying her the normal political lip service. However, Lockwood is very shrewd, and he plays to win. If the D’Aversa campaign continues to unravel, he may abandon her campaign. He has the out: after her political fallout last week, D’Aversa now needs Milton Councilwoman Julie Zahner-Bailey’s full support to win. JZB controls at least 1,000 votes in Milton. To get it, she will have to cut a deal with JZB, who is on the edge of political extinction if her main candidate, Bernard Wolff, goes down in flames. D’Aversa needs JZB’s machine to win and JZB needs D’Aversa’s consistent vote to gain control of the council.
Look for Lockwood to figure this out and bail on D’Aversa, before its too late.

The Beacon writes what we all know.

The only horses in Julie's stable are Tina, Alan, AL and Bernard. There's just not a lot of talent or even a trick pony in the group, so maybe JZB is really facing extinction.

Maybe there is a future to governing this city.

The Beacon is as good for news and fact reporting like CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC are for Obama. Give me a frikkin' break. Could they be more obviously campaiging and public relations personally for Thurman, Lusk, and now Longoria. Add Mohrig and O'Brien now coming out from hiding and putting their support behind Longoria. Yeah isn't that what the people of Milton got rid of last elections? You Suck Beacon, you are about as good as wet toilet tissue.

Oh pla-eeze, get over the Obama reference.

As posted elswhere, someone maybe in the Tina camp is inventing stuff. A poster claimed a former council type (Obrien)was at the neighborhood party in CC, when he was driving back from Florida at the time.
I doubt there is a giant conspiracy of newspapers, current and former council people & President Obama ganging up on Tina. When you go from opinion, to rumor to flat-out lies, the reason for the election gets a little lost. We should be able to see through the smokescreens.

These campaigns are just like the horse farms; the manure comes with it.

Must have been his exact twin then at the event. Eyewitness that attended says he was there. But if the Beacon had been there then they would have reported the truth, right.

You get over the Obama reference. If the shoe fits, then it fits. The media around here only writes crap about the people they don't support, then rights about flowers and blue sky for those they do support. That is a fact. Like it or not. I am in NO ones camp. I've lived out here for over 17 years and don't want this place ruined by people on council who have their own agenda for the city.

writes, woops.

How do you know he was driving back to Florida, do you know him personally to have that tidbit of information. See you are all tied together on a tether.

Anonymous said...

Fact.
I checked. So called witness lied or was mistaken.

Anonymous said...

Oh he must have mistaken Longoria for O'Brien since they are so similar.

Anonymous said...

And Obama.

They are like triplets.

For that reason, none of them will get my vote, just Tina!!!!!!!!

She is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go Tina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

ok, that's one vote!

Anonymous said...

The syrupy comments about Tina are a little much honey.

Anonymous said...

So Johnny Boy, wrong again. Joe is actually hosting an event for Tina at his home. So I guess you'll have to come up with something else.

Gotta love that Beacon. Got an ugly attitude just like the freaks on Fox News.

Any reporter can report about Longoria and see nothing but a good man trying to do the right thing.

The creme rises to the top!

You pick...

See, that's the thing. You automatically assume from my comment that I'm not voting for Longoria. Interesting. We can;t even make a comment about The Beacon's inaccuracy/special interest in reporting news without a response like that. C'mon. Stop trying to defend bad reporting in the same breath that you try to promote Longoria. Not working. Sooooo Roger Santi.

JZB is history!

Doubt it. But you can go ahead and think that if it makes you feel better.

Who cares about O'brien and Mohrig supporting Longoria or anyone else for that matter? They are old news and traitors to Milton like the scum in District 1 and 3. It's all about money and power (and a sense of belonging...so sad). If quest for money and power and inclusion in the who's who of Fulton County politics and the development community = a fine council, then we should definitely re-elect Karen and Bill and elect the guy from Crooked Creek.

Lockwood is the biggest crook of them all. He is secretly supporting Longoria behind the scenes (has even hired a consultant to do cold calling on his behalf) and then convinces naive Tina to her face that he is really supporting her. This is really sad. Hope Joe Longoria lists Lockwood on this campaign contribution disclosure form.

TA,
At least you would have moved the ball downfield instead of preening for three yrs.
Thank goodness you volunteer.

Anonymous said...

Gosh, Fredericks is beyond ugly...he is FUGLY! Plus he stutters and smokes likes a chimney-so the guy's got problems that go beyond his writing!

I certainly wouldn't have "extended" sewer

...but I would have given it to Dennis Potts...as his property is surrounded by sewer.

I'd call it "Sewer Completion" as that's what it is no matter how much JZB wants it to be something else.

Damn Travis, I think I might start a write in campaign for you. You could really have a lot of fun getting skewered on this blog. I'm there for you Man!

Thanks Mark!

I'll just start calling myself Travis "Kebab" Allen...

Let the skewering begin.

Comparing the Beacon to FOX is like comparing Bill Maher to Bill O'Reilly, bad analogy. One lies and speculates to convince people away from the truth, the other tells the truth and lets you make up your own mind.

You must be an Obama Lover if you like the Beacon. Bacon and Eggs.

Anonymous said...

Amen Travis! I agree as well. Potss should have had it.

Anonymous said...

Mention Mohrig and O'Brien supporting Longoria, why? Because they are buddies with Karen and Bill, and all 4 of them support Longoria. Truth. Go ask them.

Anonymous said...

I think we should all collect money for Potts so he can sue the City of Milton for sewer. Anybody game? And guess what? Tinas sign is right there on the corner, next to Lusk, Thurman and Longoria!! Go figure!!!!
