LONGORIA RESPONSE=>

Tim,

As always, I appreciate your diligence in voicing concerns related to the safety of our roads here in Milton. Your e-mail asked for a response as to "what transpired here?" My comments are as follows:

I watched the video - the excessive speed and maneuvers you observed, and the "warning" given by the drivers who were flashing their lights was unfortunate, but not surprising. I am sure drivers in Milton, as well as most other areas in Atlanta and the country, observe similar actions on a daily basis. While I do not condone this behavior, I am at a loss for what can be done to remedy this situation. I would make the following observations:

1. The city prides itself on the performance of our public safety employees. I know you support these individuals and the job that they do. However, it is not reasonable to think that every instance of a driving violation will be observed by one of our police officers. There just isn't enough coverage to catch every violation.

2. You remind us on a regular basis that the Bethany Rd / Freemanville Rd / Mayfield Rd area is problematic. I know that our officers take this type of feedback into consideration when they plan their daily routes.

3. Ultimately, observance of traffic laws and the safe operation of any motor vehicle lies with the driver or operator of that vehicle. We can't legislate good driving. Choosing to follow traffic laws is a choice that each driver makes when they turn the key to start their vehicle.

As I stated above, I appreciate your continued diligence in the area of public safety. My recommendation is to keep up the good work, and hope that individuals who see and read your posts on Access Milton heed the warning, and change their behavior. I know that this information has had a positive impact on many individuals.

Thanks,

Joe Longoria
Council Member
District 5
The City of Milton

It sure does seem strange to me that if the motorcycle was speeding, the car in which the video was being filmed stayed in view of them. So either both were speeding or they both were not. Maybe a police officer should look at this film as see what they can concur about it.

Watch the video again, dear friend. He is well ahead of us at the top of the hill; basically blowing our doors off. That is were we stopped filming. The only reason we caught up to him was due to the ambulance. Also, this motorocycle driver passed on a double yellow line which is illegal.

Joe Longoria is a good man. He is also new on the Council and not burned out on this recurring, almost to the point of boring, topic of speeding on Bethany. Maybe you could film on some other open roads. Getting kind of old whining about only Bethany Road all the time. There are 18,307 more acres to cover. How about Hopewell, Birmingham, Freemanville, Francis, Redd, Hwy 9, Mayfield, Providence, Brittle, Mountain.... Just to name a few. The Police do the best they can do under the circumstances.

Tim Enloe said...

ummm...this video involved speeding on Hagood; not Bethany.

Re the common reference of Bethany, this road has had far more fatal wrecks than other open road neighborhoods in Milton. Do the research, and you will find the same results.

Hmmmm, Hagood is just a very long block and could almost be considered an extension of Bethany to some. Fine it has accidents, so do other open roads. You are always complaining about Nimby's on this site, so how about getting video other than in essentially your very own backyard. That's all Im saying. Do what you want. Not sure people are going to listen though with your approach. I certainly applaud your effort for trying. As long as it doesn't get too vigilante and freaky or something. Better yet, join the effort another way, you could become a Police Officer you know. Better beat than cameraman.

Tim Enloe said...

My camera is with me at all times.
If we witness someone breaking the law, we will film it regardless of the location.

Trust me, as I have said many times, Bethany is just one bump in the road of open road neighborhoods that are abused daily with speeding, noise, and litter concerns.

You are right in the fact that other such neighborhoods experience the same abuses that Bethany does. To date, council has done NOTHING about any of them.

It should also be stressed that if anyone sends over video they would like us to post on Accessmilton.com, as long as we have someone taking credit for the video, we will post it.

I have thought about being an officer, but chose a different direction. Regardless, my respect for them is bar none.

To : 5:40 am

I was driving the vehicle and remained at the speed limit (40mph) or under at times while Tim filmed the bike.

"in view" is different than keeping pace. The bike is breaking the speed limit.

To: 6:00am

We do not travel around Milton just to film speeders. We are en route to our home and happened to be the lucky recipients of the harassment.

Since you are "whining" about the lack of video on "Hopewell, Birmingham, Freemanville, Francis, Redd, Hwy 9, Mayfield, Providence, Brittle, Mountain.... Just to name a few" then please feel free to send in your film so that we may post it.

"The Police do the best they can do under the circumstances."
We know this.
We have not complained about the officers.

"Joe Longoria is a good man. He is also new on the Council and not burned out on this recurring, almost to the point of boring, topic of speeding on Bethany."

I am glad to see that Joe Longoria is on the council because it is his subdivision (Crooked Creek) that has spoken the loudest and most often when it comes to drivers speeding through it.
Therefore I hope Joe would be sensitive to this topic.
With this video (and others should you send them in) he can see that this is a citywide problem.

Sorry, not interested in unauthorized film making but this has obviously made you upset to respond so quickly. If you are not complaining about the officers, and I know you don't intend to do this but aren't you really being contradictory here. What on earth can the council do other than hire more officers to patrol speeding. With no tax revenue. No money. They cannot sit at the ends of Bethany and cannot slow down drivers themselves. Maybe you could interview some residents of Crooked Creek and other areas of Milton. Lowering the speed limit must be a citywide effort in order to make much of a difference, and more people will need to make noise. We cannot have it all.

Want rural?
Don't want rural?
Want open roads?
Don't want subdivisions?
Want less government?
Don't want the tax increase?
Want more Police officers?
You want to eat cake?

Good luck.

Tim Enloe said...

I am happy to send you over my speed control power point that I presented to council last year. The plan offered many solutions that would have cost the taxpapers zero dollars.

I have no problem sending it over to you if you would like to review it. It was also posted here on accessmilton.com a few months ago.

Listen up everyone!! No fault with Tim and Ginger, the fault lies with the speeding biker and the danger he placed on all motorists driving on the same road. Can't you see and understand that seeing is believing and knowing we have some very uncaring people traveling our roads?

Anonymous said...

Perhaps if a few other caring residents of Milton can capture on film what we witnessed by film on Bethany Road, the city can take a step toward lowering the overall speed limit. Wreckless driving is overwhelming in this area.

Anonymous said...

It would not matter what they lowered the speed limit too. Go sit on Mayfield Rd., past Bethany and watch everyday at the 35 MPH blinking sign at the motorists that are going 45 and above and they DO NOT SLOW DOWN. NO SIGN makes people slow down. Even through the 25 MPH blinking school zone sign at Alpharetta Elementary today, motorists who were going towards Alpharetta Highway were probably doing 35-40 MPH WHILE THE SIGN WAS BLINKING, especially one truck that I blinked my lights on and off at so he would think a policeman was ahead. Do that at approaching speeders, they will slow down, and you can just sit back and laugh at them, knowing there is no officer ahead. People in their own cars are the only ones that control their speed. Also go through Crabapple towards the Kroger. Did you know that was 35 MPH.. Well go 35 MPH and you will have A------- on your tails!!! I go 35 and really and truly they can get p----- off at me if they want to. People do not want to slow down in Milton or our neighboring towns.

Excuse Me Tim. Hagood turns into Bethany and you followed him South passed where Bethany Way turns off and then over Providence South on Bethany. I thought you knew your street.

4:13pm = you must have been captain of the debate team with solid, on target points like those! You could get a job in gov't for sure with that "deflect the argument to something useless" approach!

4:07pm = thanks for the detailed scientific survey of the 3 cars you saw speeding despite a posted sign...think of the money the world will save now on those stupid useless signs once they get their hands on your report!

I don't understand your blog. I am saying people are responsible for their own actions and will say and do whatever they want to no matter what the rule is or law is because they think they are special and should be treated special and are above the LAW! Just like the motor cyclist. Passing on a double yellow line and speeding. Who the h--- does he think he is and why should he be allowed to break the law of the roads. What goes around comes around is the old saying. You figure it out!

Anonymous said...

The 6:12 post from Tim said the speeding occurred on Hagood not Bethany. Tim look at your video again. Do you not recognize your own street or was he only speeding on the short, short, distance of Hagood and then doing the speed limit once you passed Bethany Way and Providence. If you don't even know where you are filming how can we trust what you are saying.

Anonymous said...

OMG
why do you keep harassing Tim? He is trying to raise awareness to keep people from DYING! Give him some credit instead of criticism. It appears you have a problem recognizing the good in what he does because you won't put aside whatever your obvious personal issue is with him. I am very thankful we have the Enloes looking out for all on our roads. Keep it up Tim, trying to save lives is never boring.

Anonymous said...

I think Tim does a good job also on trying to keep our streets safe, BUT, there has been at least 1 time Tim was driving and had the video in his hand video taping. You call that safe driving. All we can do is support our local police and support them giving speeders tickets. The problem is people who get tickets think they are above the law. I bet 80% of the people who drive on Milton streets speed and could care less.

Tim just takes it to a personal level, above and beyond.

Travis Allen said...

I think Tim is wrong...I think this was filmed on Bethany Road Way Bend Street Circle Trace Boulevard Run Drive View Trail...not Hagood!

Tim Enloe said...

You would take it to a personal level too if you lost a loved one due to a car wreck. A wreck that could have been avoided through the government fixing an intersection as well as the knowledge of safe driving.

To lose someone in such a fashion creates a hole in your life your will never fill. My passion lies in justifying my brother's death by trying to save others.

You would also take it to a personal level when both your wife and mother live on a street where vehicular fatalities are a regular affair.

Finally, Travis, the biker crossed the double yellow line on Hagood and sped on both Hagood and Bethany...but I see your sarcasm as well;)

Tim, stop with your brother. We knew him and he was well liked. BUT he was speeding on wet pavement..

We are all sorry for your families loss but this just does not seem like the right way to go about it.

1:54 what a cold, heartless, HORRIBLE thing to say. Clearly you don't belong here and need to find a more isolated and miserable place to live.

You are an idiot for what you wrote.
If you are that Rhonda neighbor of his and wrote that, you need prayers to keep you out of the Abyss, not sure if even that would help you seeing one must recognize their evil doings and desire forgiveness to receive it. Wow you are the one going over and beyond with your heartless attacks. Please post your name so we don't give nutty Rhonda credit for your cold comments about his brother. Unless it is you. Let us have a go at you!

Tim Enloe said...

The only way to go about it is to use his loss to help others. I will never stop reminding people that he was here and a huge part of my family's life. He is missed and still loved to this day.

Even with the rocks you throw, I hope your family never suffers the same loss.

Maybe Bethany Rd neighbors need to meet up with the Milton Police and ask them what they can do to help out. (Not City Council) Also is there a non-emergency number that people can call from their cell phones (I know what you're thinking about using your cell phone while driving) that could alert either the city of Alpharetta/Milton police that there is someone driving dangerously on our streets. You could put this number in your phone under Alp. Police and Mil. Pol. Maybe this would help.

This is wonderful suggestion. Wonder if this can be done?

Anonymous said...

It can be done. If I see it does not not anywhere on Access Milton., then maybe I can get it done myself.

This is the 2nd time I have asked Access Milton to do something regarding an article with both of them asking to put information out to the public and this is the 2nd time it has not been done. I will make the inquiry Monday morning and I will post the non-emergency numbers so people will have them.
