WALESKA, Ga. -- Crews responded to two separate heat-related emergencies at the same band camp as Milton High School band members practiced in sweltering summer heat Thursday, said Cherokee County Fire Department spokesman Tim Cavender.

The first call came in at 9:15 a.m. at Reinhardt University in Waleska, where the high school was holding its band camp.

A 15-year-old girl suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital, Cavender said. A little more than an hour later, seven people were treated for heat-related symptoms. A 15-year-old boy was taken to Northside Cherokee Hospital, while the other six people received treatment at the scene.

Officials said they advised the band director to discontinue outside practice. The camp had been going on all week, said a representative for Reinhardt University.

Tim, you have got to be bursting with joy at this news? I knew you were always right.

I have never wished ill will towards the students or teachers. They have done nothing wrong. The mismanagement, misappropriation of funds, and lack of planning lie at the FCBOE Board's feet. The students and teachers simply go where the system tells them to.If anything, they are victims as well.

I hope that those who fell ill at the camp are doing better.

I just am sick and tired of all the traffic and noise caused by those comunist pigs that rammed the huge behemoth down our throats at Bethany Road. At least you dont live the horror!

Wondering about the origin of previous post? Again the venom of "snake in the grass".

HOw about they practice indoors due to the heat. If the FCBOE's mission statement is where children come first, then how about protecting them from being harmed from practicing in this heat. Common sense. There in no reason the kids can't be indoors.
