New Poll Up.

All:

We have a new poll up. It asks:

Should the Fulton County Board of Education be required to have approval of the Milton City Council before a public school is built within the city limits?

Cast your vote in the upper right!

The last poll asked:

Milton hired a parks director for $85,000 / yr. Starting salary for a police officer is $39,500 /yr. For $85k, would you still have hired the parks director or two additional officers instead?

RESULTS:

1 Parks Director 166 votes (52%)
2 Police Officers 148 votes (47%)

NOTE: While our polls only allow one vote per vistor, the results can be manipulated with the proper knowledge. Thus, with any results, a margin of error should be anticipated.

Shocking! Are you saying that people could be cheating! OMG. What are we to do!!!

Love the toon!

Tim, can you tell if people voted twice or at least a pattern in when they voted?

No. Blogger limits what we can know. The only option we have is to only allow one vote per visitor. However, people can manipulate the poll if they have the knowledge.

I am dumbfounded that the residents of Milton voted the way they did.

I would like to see in print the reasons WHY they support a Parks Director over more police protection and WHY they think that our police (and firemen) do not deserve the same pay as a Parks Director. Please enlighten me !

It's not that easy to cheat on this...you'd have to completely delete your temporary internet files...and it depends on how the blogger site saves the data most likely via "cookies" so if you delete a cookie from your machine, and then return to the website, blogger probably removes your vote...so to change your vote, you'd have to not only change your IP Address each time, you'd have to keep all of your cookies

Tim the reson the majority on your pole voted for a parks director is that we need parks here for our children. This is not to say that police arent important but we already have them and more than we had before.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding your support for the parks director. However, would you mind repeating your point in the post above?

We have received a few folks who are bothered by the parks director winning the poll. They want some reasoning behind your vote.

Thanks,

Ok, Milton needs parks and recreation for our families. Fields and facilities, it is as simple as that.

You need a parks director to implement that, not more police officers to sit along our roads and give out speeding tickets.

Thanks for letting me clarify that.

I mean post your response in the question mark post above this post.

And by the way, the cops are giving out speeding tickets because people are speeding.
These officers are trying to save lives. No one in Milton should live in fear of checking their mail boxes or pulling out of their driveways.

I think the poll results would have been completely different if the question were simply - Should the City spend $85,000 to hire a Parks Director - yes or no?

The same money could be used for a variety of other uses - field construction, traffic safety devices, police officers, etc.

The Parks Director has great references and seems well qualified but we'd be better served if we hired someone with her expertise on a part-time, short-term consulting basis.

We are paying too much for the expertise of senior managers in a city with VERY little to manage. The planning, capital budgeting and decision making required for our future parks should be a responsibility of the City Manager. Lagerbloom has pushed to hire senior department heads because he has ZERO experience in city management (with the exception of public safety) and he knows he's in over his head.

People would not have fear of checking the mailbox if it was not so close to the road. Chris will hire who he sees fit for the open positions. Some people need the chance to prove they can do the job and I for one have been giving the chance. I work harder than most to prove it. The ones with a degree think that a employer owes them as soon as they are hired. Seen it many many times. Keep your head up Chris and move the city forward.

Did you see the incredible new invention for the open road neighborhoods? It is amazing! Basically, it is a line painted white on each side of the street. It helps to show the driver where they need to drive their car. Basically stating to stay inside the line. Talk about the "wow" factor! I am not aware of any mailboxes that go over this white line...Talk about technology!

It will take more than an army of police officers to change human behavior when people are behind the wheel of a vehicle. Gotta knock out the "me mentality" first, then work on the distractions and gadgets people can't live without while driving.

wow.. I think Tim has something here. Wonder if you have ever seen that white line stop a car or truck. Lets understand the white line first. The white line is used in all handbooks and law books as a engineering judgement of do not cross me. You know some mailbox's are just three feet from that white line. So now lets see how fast you can react. Dont jerk the wheel to hard and lose control and cross a double yellow. WOW was a dog or deer that just ran out in front of you. Here's a better one what will you do. A drunk driver just crossed the double yellow heading head on with you... I can't cross the white line... So see Tim what you stated is very incorrect.. Are you the local traffic engineer? No wonder we have so many four way stops.
