This past week Protect Milton, Inc. reached out to several schools in Milton to help collect medical and hygiene items for the earthquake victims in Haiti. Summit Hill Elementary School and Birmingham Falls Elementary School agreed to participate. Through the generosity of the families in both schools, we were able to collect a good amount of the needed items. All of these supplies will be given directly to the Haitian Committee at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church on Rucker Road. They will be taken in a few weeks directly to their sister church in Haiti and used to help the victims of the earthquake disaster.

Protect Milton would like to thank both Principals; Nancy Murphy and Tracy Trussell for reaching out to the families in their schools and also Staples in Milton for their generous donation of boxes which we are using to sort and pack the items. Most importantly, “Thank You,” to the families at both schools for graciously donating these supplies!

Summit Hill Elementary’s Physical Education Teacher, Rick Johnson, came up with a special challenge for the students. Mr. Johnson called it Healthy Huskies Help Haiti and here's how it worked: “If a child brought in a monetary donation of at least 25 cents or an item from the list of medical/hygienic supplies, they could challenge me to one of several fitness challenges, " Johnson shared, "If they beat me I would give one dollar for each repetition that they beat me by. For example, if the challenge was push-ups and I did 25 and they did 30 I would give $5. For challenges that involved time rather than repetitions I would give $1 each time a student beat me.

Between the children of SHE and Mr. Johnson through this challenge they were able to raise $410.00 and collected many supplies. Thank you Mr. Johnson and thank you Huskies at Summit Hill Elementary!!
