Car leaking? In Milton, Replace The Front Tire.

by Tim Enloe; Accessmilton.com

Since Milton's incorporation back in 2006, it has been an interesting animal to watch. Decisions here, decisions there, decisions, decisions everywhere. Many of the verdicts have made little sense to me.

To begin with, the city website loves to promote Milton's "rural character". They promote it everywhere; even using a borrowed horse logo as the official city symbol. Yet, when is the last time you heard of a law or ordinance passed by the city council; both past or present, that had to do with the equestrians or open road residents of our community? I have heard nothing even though these people are the reason that Milton is refered to as "rural." Why they are not balancing their focus on this type of lifestyle is beyond me.

Next, we have the issue of police coverage. Milton is actually the second largest city in Georgia with exception to Atlanta when it comes to actual geographical size.

So, when an emergency comes your way, it is going to be a little while before they start knocking on your door. Yet our council approved the hiring of a parks director for $85k as opposed to bringing on additional officers. When an emergency transpires, seconds matter. Have they forgotten this fact?

Let it be stressed that I love parks and believe they are very important when it comes to a city truly being a desireable entity. However, hiring a parks director now when we only have three parks with only one currently available to use is premature at best. This fact is especially true when you consider that we normally have three to four officers per twelve hour shift. Point being, parks are like the icing on the cake and the officers are the eggs. Without the eggs, you have no cake to put icing on.

Finally, we come to the issue of speeding in Milton. Yes, I talk about it more than most, but passions are spawned by tragedy. No one is immune to this problem. Both subdivision and open road neighborhoods experience this dangerous habit daily.
However, there have been no fatalities due to wrecks within our subdivisions. Yet, there have been six in our open road neighborhoods. Even with all this information right in front of council, they are now looking at ways to help cover costs in slowing down people in...guess what...the subdivisions! Remember, everyone drives the open road neighborhood roads but not everyone drives the subdivision roads.

In conclusion, Milton needs to wake up and remember that for every action, there is equal and just reaction. When dealing with problems, fix the one that harbors the biggest negative return first and then go down the list. After all, changing a tire doesn't fix a car leak.

Where do you get the information that Milton is the second largest city in Georgia by area? Milton is +/- 44 sq miles. A simple 2 min serch shows at least 6 larger cities in Georgia larger than Milton. Augusta for example is almost 7 times larger than Milton in area. Actually, both Augusta and Columbus are larger than Atlanta in area by 2x at least. I agree that the city makes some decisions that don't make since, but perhaps it's because we don't know all the facts.

The city faces what every city faces. Most of the problem will be a driver that lives in the neighborhood. Fix your major routes and they will stay on them. Putting up stop signs at every corner will not do it. That will only cause a problem. The MUTCD even tells you that you can't put them to slow traffic down. Most of the problems I saw were went traffic is backup at a stop sign then people cut through. Change most of the stop signs with a traffic signal and it would go away if proper signal timing is in place. The MUTCD and state law work hand in hand to keep the public safe. Go against either only opens yourself up and maybe even your own pocketbook. You will never stop all of it....

If you put up lights, then people will drive that much faster in the open road neighborhoods. Think about it; we all speed up to catch the light.

The sooner they install whatever measures they can to protect the open road neighborhood residents, the better.

Why so many choose to forget that families live on these roads is beyond me. Pure arrogance.

And by the way, I consider myself a "balance baby" ie; all laws should balance evenly for each citizen.

Still wondering where you came up with the notion that Milton is the second largest city in GA as far as area?

You are actually correct and I was wrong. The truth regarding the size issue is that Milton is the biggest city north of Atlanta. I apologize; got mixed up on my info. Regardless, we are one of the biggest in the state.

Thanks for the heads up.

Tim, Do you think the light is always green for someone to speed up. You were talking about people who drive neighborhoods to avoid traffic. Move your traffic and solve the major part of your problem. Putting up stop signs did not but cause the problem when a signal could have been warrant. The backup from people stopping at stop signs make them look for a earier route. Unwarranted stop signs should be removed. There is noting that can be done for a speeder except for your local police to write tickets. Now with that out the bag they can only write tickets if that street is on the radar permit. Other tickets can be written beside speeding if its not on the permit. If its on the permit it has to be properly signed. In most cases this is how the driver if he knows what he is doing can get out the ticket.

Tim, you just need to get laid more?

I am fine in that arena, but thanks for the offer.

You folks are missing the point. The country was founded on equal treatment under the law but those who reside on the open roads are treated as second class citizens. If Milton is going to continue to govern in this fashion, then enough with the stop sewer here argument.

Tim, dont talk about your lovely wife in that way refering to her as enjoying "rodeo" sex as you mention that you do it in an arena.

You guys should try "BOE" sex. During the act have Ginger mention Katie Reeves name and see how long she can hold on while you run for your computor to bash her!
