Item no 8 - Milton Roundup. Jason Wright was employed by Appen Newspapers prior to joining the City of Milton and handling the website.
This just does not sit well with me. A contract from the city for advertising with the newspaper to the tune of $1,130.90?
Seems to me that being posted on city website is sufficient. Absolutely no need to spend more taxpayer money. Is there more to this than portrayed?

No. I believe that this is a legal requirement. The Milton Herald is the official publication for public information that is communicated by the city.

I believe it's just that simple in this case.

Jason was actually able to negotiate that amount down from what Appen wanted to bill. It's for advertising in not only the Milton Herald, but also in the Alpharetta Revue.

This is the 4th year we've had a Milton Roundup, and we've advertised each year in either the Herald, the Beacon, or both.

If you don't know what you are talking about, it may be better to keep it to yourself rather than come across as ignorant and making accusations that something is going on.

Travis Allen, Isn't this year's Round Up fully supported by sponsor dollars? I thought I heard that was the case, so no general fund money is used for this event?

Why do we have to pay to advertise in the first place, this is a local event, one we do every year, and Appen and others should just cover it as a news story for free and put it in there as advertising ahead of time as a courtesy since the people who read and purchase their newspapers are from this area anyway. That would be smart business sense. Why nickel and dime the city on this item when the city provides them with a plethora of news and information for free which makes people such as us read their paper to begin with. Now they are getting bad advertisement for not doing so in the first place.

Travis you sure do know alot about alot of stuff in Milton that most people don't have privvy to.

Interesting and most amusing - Hogan's Heroes

The city has to pay for all advertising with Appen Newspapers, not just for the Milton Roundup.

Yes, it would be nice if they wrote an article, but the Roundup isn't quite at the level of the Taste of Alpharetta just yet.

And I'm sure Alpharetta doesn't pay for advertising the taste because they give Appen a large sponsorship spot. Those spots cost much more for the Taste than for the Roundup.

How do you expect the newspaper to remain in business if they don't have advertising revenue?

Commonsense stuff if you've been involved in the Roundup each year like I have.

And to the question posted above, yes, the 2010 Milton Roundup is fully supported by Sponsorship monies, so no Taxpayer money was used at all!

Once again, folks are talking about stuff they know nothing about.

To 12:04---Hongan's Heros isn't correct. It's more like Hogan's Goat.

Of course, you are all forgetting that anytime there is a chance for more than 3 members of the city council to be in one place at the same time, the city is required to advertise that event. Since everyone on the council will more than likely attend the Roundup, the city must advertise that fact. The Milton Herald is the legal publication of record for the city. Hence the advert in that publication.

So they need to take out weekly ads in the event they all end up at school picking up their kids, or going to watch a football game, or going to the same church service, or shopping at Publix?? I know for sure I have seen 3 or more at Milton games on more than one occassion but never saw the ad

Unless people ask questions how is Travis supposed to showcase his knowledge? By insulting the questioners he seems to be biting off the hand that feeds his ego.

Again, there was absolutely no need for the council to agree for advertising in the local paper and spend over $1100. Somehow this makes one wonder all Milton tax money is spent wisely. Apparently not!!

Did Jason get a commission for this sale?
