Mayor honors Milton-born centenarian.

Milton Mayor Joe Lockwood honored Willie Mae Foster's 100th birthday May 23 with a proclamation naming her birth date, May 21, in her honor.

Foster was born Willie Mae Pearson in 1910 on her family's 40-acre homestead on Hopewell Road, the youngest of seven children. She lived in Milton until the 1920's, when she moved with her family to Sandy Springs, where she has lived since.

Foster's children, Byron and Shirley Morgan, kept the farm in the family and both live there today. In addition, more than four generations of the family are buried in Hopewell Baptist Church's cemetery.

If your family represents an important link to Milton's past or if you would like to help preserve the history of the city, please contact Communications Manager Jason Wright for information on how you can help celebrate the community's heritage.

Will the next feel good story on the Mayor show him kissing a baby?

This is not a feel good story about our mayor but about our city and our residents.
