Girl Scouts beautify Friendship Park for Silver Award.

Two local Girl Scouts recently finished their Silver Award project at Friendship Community Park in Crabapple by installing planting beds that spell out “Milton.”

Clara Smallwood and Meagan Mitchell, eighth graders at Northwestern Middle School and members of Girl Scout Troop 27332, chose Friendship Park because they were at Crabapple Crossing Elementary School when plans for the park were first announced. The Silver Award requires the girls “positively impact their community in a sustainable way,” so Friendship was a perfect fit.

“We like gardening, we like going to the park,” said Mitchell. “We knew doing something here would be good for the school and the community.”

Smallwood said they began fundraising in July and planted the projects pansies, tulips and monkey grass in late October and early November.
