MILTON, Ga. -- Residents of a North Fulton County community told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Regan that they are worried about their safety after a pit bull attacked and killed another dog.

The attack happened in the Lake Deerfield neighborhood in Milton. Although Linda Alderman, the pit bull’s owner, was cited by police for having a vicious dog off a leash, Regan has since learned that animal control officers returned the dog to Alderman.

"How many dogs is this animal going to kill before he gets to a small child?" said Holly Proano, whose 8-year-old poodle, Lucky, was mauled and killed by the pit bull.

"He would not let my dog go. My dog was screaming … he wouldn't let go,” said Proano.

The owner of the pit bull arrived and pulled the animal off Lucky. But the damage was done.
Veterinarians kept Lucky alive at an area pet hospital as they tried to determine whether surgery would save the animal, which had gaping wounds on its stomach.

"They were worried with nerve damage, he was going to lose the leg," said Proano.
Lucky died two days later. Proano is now out nearly $5,000 in vet bills.

Stephanie Wolf lives in the neighborhood and said the pit bull has a history of aggressive behavior. Wolf said she watched the same dog attack another small dog last summer.
"I want to live in a safe place. I don't want someone to die from a vicious dog," said Wolf.
Regan tried visiting the dog's owner home, but there was no answer.

Milton police told Regan that it was an animal control decision to release the dog, but the county said by e-mail that the officer on scene allowed the owner to keep the pit bull in home confinement, even after issuing a citation that the dog was vicious.

Details will be presented when the case goes to court in late March.

I just love the fact that this element is in our community!

Why not just throw out a doormat to the crips and bloods as well?

I'll bet it was really a council member, as one has this reputation as a "pit bull"?

It's not the dogs that are at fault, it's the owners that raised the dogs to be this way.

pit bulls have by nature a tendency to "wig out" for random reasons ... they are not safe dogs to have in neighborhoods unless they are kept fenced and away from society. If they latch on they do not let go!

I wish we could outlaw these things from our community. They give responsible dogs and owners a bad name.

The owner is completely irresponsible. How soon before a child gets mauled by this same animal that has repeatedly attacked other dogs in this neighborhood?

I bet it was in Avensong?

According to WSB reporter Tom Regan, this incident happened in the Lake Deerfield subdivision. Don't speculate because of your haughty attitude! Bad dogs and vicious dog owners are everywhere in Milton!

Bad dog, woof woof! You are such a stuck up person! Deerfield is not that bad, you should open your eyes and mind!

First of all, do you know for sure this is a Pitbull? So many times there are reports about pitbull attacks and the dogs aren't even pits. Second, does anyone know if the poodle showed aggression towards the "pitbull" first? Small dogs like poodles are more likely to bite someone than a pitbull. Third, blame the owner not the dog. It is the owners fault the dog wasn't tied up. It is the owner who is responsible for training and disciplining the dog. And last but not least, all of you people that say how pitbulls are naturally mean animals need to do your research and quit listening to everything your hear on television. Pits are not naturally mean. They are very loyal loving dogs. They make great pets and are wonderful with kids. Also they are very protective over their family. They have a horrible reputation because of idiot people think they know everything. Most dogs that are referred to as pitbulls aren't pitbull but some kind of mutt or bull massive. Alot of people that down pits are so stupid they don't even know what a pitbull looks like.
