Milton loses its city clerk

MILTON - Milton City Clerk Jeanette Marchiafava has left her position with the city.

According to City Manager Chris Lagerbloom, it is a personnel issue and he can say little about the reasons for her leaving. Marchiafava has been with the city since its inception three years ago. Being a city official, Marchiafava’s resignation has to be ratified by the City Council.

"She’s been there since day one and has helped set up our whole court system," said Mayor Joe Lockwood. "I’ve enjoyed working with her and wish her the best as she moves forward."

The city has seen several high positions turn over in recent months.

Lagerbloom insists that there is no problem with the city, that instead it is the corporate culture of CH2M Hill, the private entity that operates large swaths of the city business.

"If you look at our police and fire departments, which are under city control, there is very, very little turnover," Lagerbloom said. "In a private partner, people can come and go."

The City Clerk is a public employee, not private.

While some employees have left for personal reasons - such as Community Development Director Alice Wakefield who left to join the City of Roswell, where she lives - others have simply been transferred elsewhere as the need arises by the company, such as Johns Creek or Sandy Springs. Since Milton is transitioning away from the private partnership with CH2M Hill, as some positions empty, they will not be fully staffed until both sides have a better idea of what positions will be privately staffed and which will be publicly. Interim Community Development Director Tom Wilson, who has filled Wakefield’s position - is a prime example.

These statements are so vague and full of holes. To even bring in the thought that Ch2m Hill had anything to do with Jeanette leaving is absurd... some are masterful at talking out of both sides of their mouths and you never know which side is truth. Unfortunately, as with this story and so many others, we will never know the truth. The city manager is masterful at throwing smoke bombs to take your eyes off the real issues... I think if anyone will check, they will find that the police and fire have also had their fair share of turnovers, even recently, and many of these have been at the top, which the city manager was the "chief" over all! Thoughts to ponder...

Chris is lying!

It's always easy to blame someone who leaves for your own shortcomings and bad decisions - absolutely Chris needs to get his stories straight. That BS about giving everyone that came over from CH2 a "round up" is hard to swallow. I'd like to see that on paper. AND, that they brought their paystub to an interview. I have been to many interviews over the years and never been asked to bring a pay stub to prove what I made at my last job. Lord what will come out of his mouth next.

probably something about sewer extension or roundabouts

Maybe it is time for the city to get rid of Chris, especially since he does not live in the city of Milton.

Well, now that these Ch2m employees are now city employees, their pay rates are subject to open records, if anyone is interested. However, you would not know how much they were paid before because as a private company that information is sealed. It would be interesting though to see how they stock up with other cities...
