Baristas 'throw down' in Milton

MILTON - Baristas from around the area came calling at Element Coffee Co. in Milton for a “Suburban Throwdown” in which they pitted their talents against each other in a latte art competition.

Element Coffee Co., at 12635 Crabapple Road (formerly a Jittery Joe’s location), hosted 21 competitors, who went head to head in competition. The throwdown was a free pour latte art competition, meaning the baristas could not use any tools to form their designs. The baristas pull espresso shots into mugs, steam their milk, and then pour the steamed milk into the espresso to form a picture. Popular pictures are the heart, the Rosetta, the fern leaf and the swan.

Daniel Mueller took the $200 cash prize among baristas from Element Coffee Co., Land of 1000 Hills, Octane at Emory and Safehouse Coffee and Tea.

Element Coffee Co. has comfy chairs, free Wi-Fi and a conference table. A full menu is offered serving lunch, breakfast and pastries all day. Intelligentsia coffee and Black Cat Espresso are served.
