ATLANTA (August 27, 2013) – Sen. John
Albers (R –Roswell) has released the following statement regarding a recent
article released by Bankrate.com, an online aggregate website for banking and
financial information, claiming that Georgia is the most expensive state for car
ownership:
“An article recently released by Bankrate.com
entitled “car ownership costs by state” has caused many of
my constituents to question whether this data accurately reflects Georgia car
ownership and tax rate costs.
“Recognizing the state’s heavy tax burden on
automobiles, my colleagues and I made it our number one priority during the 2012
session to pass a comprehensive tax reform package aimed at putting more money
back into the hands of Georgia taxpayers. One of the key provisions of this tax
plan featured a gradual elimination of Georgia’s Ad Valorem or Birthday Tax.
This critical change to Georgia tax law was not reflected in Bankrate’s report,
and as a result, the tax data for 2013 and beyond should be reduced
significantly.
“I have contacted Bankrate.com to update the
analysis and report based on current information. The recent reduction in taxes
is a direct result of the strong GOP majorities in the Georgia Legislature along
with the leadership of Governor Nathan Deal.
“On behalf of
the citizens of the 56th Senate District and Georgians throughout the
state, I remain committed to reducing taxes and burdensome regulations. I
appreciate the willingness of my constituents to reach out to my office and am
open to discussing the matter further should you have additional questions or
concerns.”
