Large said his wife's business requires a move back to Virginia but that he'll continue on in his position until the special election is complete.
"We moved here from Virginia Beach and most of my wife's business is in Virginia," he said. "And she wants me to go with her, which is a good thing."
Per the city's charter, the City Council has to call for a special election and the mechanism for that to occur is in legal review and will most likely be on the Aug. 19 council meeting agenda.

"The person elected will serve the remainder of Councilman Large's term, until Dec. 31, 2015." City Clerk Sudie Gordon said. "That person will be up for re-election in the November 2015 municipal election."
Gordon said qualifying for the November special election would be from Aug. 26 to 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., like the qualifying for the general election.
A write-in candidate will have until Sept. 9.
"On the ballot for the Nov. 5 election will appear a special election for an un-expired term with the names of any candidates who qualify or act as write-ins," she said.
Large said he's enjoyed his time as a council member and is grateful for the experience.
"Living in and serving the Milton community has been wonderful," he said. "I have met some great people and the city is truly the nicest place we've lived."
