The City of Milton was awarded a $100,000 Fiscal Year 2011 Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission. This grant will help Milton create a new quality growth plan for the Ga. 9 and Deerfield Parkway area.
This has been a short term work program goal for Milton as specified in the 2010 Comprehensive Plan. The plan highlighted Ga. 9 and the Deerfield character area as future development areas in need of master planning.
This LCI grant will provide funding for expertise to create an overarching plan for potential development and redevelopment of the area. It would also define appropriate land uses and zoning changes, and include improvements for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
The LCI program is a federally funded program that also assists with implementations grants after master planning is complete.
Successful completion of an LCI master plan will allow Milton to be eligible for a larger pot of federal funding to build the transportation projects required to see the plan realized.
