MILTON, GA., April 12, 2011 - Milton Fire Marshal Matt Marietta has been named a Certified Emergency Manager by the International Association of Emergency Managers, the highest honor the group can bestow.
"This is not only a great accomplishment for Matt, but a great asset for the city and residents of Milton," said Robert Edgar, Milton's Fire Chief. "Having this level of professional competence available to the community during a natural and/or man-made disaster is tremendous."
Marietta, a decorated police officer, firefighter and Ph.D candidate, spent three years earning the title by serving in specialized planning and teaching roles and contributing to the field with research. He was certified as an Associate Emergency Manager in 2008, and has since overseen Milton's emergency management planning and execution as required by the Federal and Georgia emergency management agencies.
Marietta will recertify this credential every five years. He joins just 1,639 other emergency managers approved for the designation since January, 1993 representing local, state, and federal government, private industry and military.
