ATLANTA (November 22,
2013) – Sen. John Albers (R
–Roswell) has released the following statement regarding the removal of the
Georgia 400 Tolls:
“Today is a historic
day for commuters and citizens residing along the GA–400 corridor. After years
of working with elected and state transportation officials, the day has finally
arrived – the GA-400 tolls are coming down. This is a positive example of the
branches of government working together and doing what’s right for the people of
Georgia.
Scheduled to be removed in 2011, the
GA-400 tolls were extended and allocated for other regional transportation
projects without any involvement from the people who use the tolls every day.
This action become a barrier to public trust and required citizens to foot the
bill for millions of additional bonds that were already paid in full.
For nearly five years,
I’ve worked closely with state transportation authorities and sponsored
legislation to ensure the State of Georgia fulfilled its promise to end the
GA-400 tolls and find innovative solutions for traffic management.
I would like to commend
Governor Nathan Deal for working to fulfill this promise to the citizens of
Georgia and those who travel along our roadways. Today represents a new chapter
in rebuilding transparency between government and the people it
serves.
Today, I had the
privilege of bringing my sledgehammer down on the GA-400 tolls once and for all;
fulfilling my pledge to the citizens of this state.”
