At its Nov. 4 meeting, Milton’s City Council proclaimed November National American Indian Heritage month.
The designation began in 1976, but dates back to 1916 when Red Fox James, a member of the Blackfoot Confederacy, rode horseback from state to state, getting endorsement from 24 separate governments to have a day that honors Native Americans.
Members of the Daughters of the American Revolution Martha Stewart Bulloch Chapter’s American Indian Committee joined City Council in receiving the honor.
