Letter On Behalf Of The Fulton County Legislative Delegation Regarding Fulton Science Academy.

Courtesy State Of Georgia North Fulton County Legislative Delegation.

December 22, 2011

Fulton County Board of Education
786 Cleveland Avenue SW
Atlanta, GA 30315

Dear Members of the Board:

We were very disappointed to learn that the Fulton Science Academy was denied a charter renewal on Tuesday. The ramifications of closing this school have far reaching negative effects for all of Georgia. The fallout and negative press will hurt us economically and academically. This news will go nationwide very quickly and add to the list of educational black marks similar to the City of Atlanta and Clayton County schools. The school is a nationally registered Blue-Ribbon institution, and has the highest test scores among Fulton Middle Schools and in some instances the entire state.

It is time to set aside differences between adults and work together for the students. These children are doing their best and it is essential a compromise is reached. The future of our children is paramount. We recieved numerous telephone calls today from parents and in some cases we could hear their children crying over losing their school. Refusal to renew this charter will be the catalyst for the demise of the other two charter schools financially tied to FSA due to the bonds already issued.

We have a legal opinion and confirmation from the State Of Georgia that your Bond does have the power and authority to accept the resubmitted petition immediately that meets all of Dr. Robert Avossa's requirements and demands for approval. Denying the Fulton Science Academy a charter renewal and holding a hard line is not the right answer. Failure is not an option. We cannot think of a better way to start the New Year than everyone reassessing this decision and working together without emotion to solve this problem.

Sincerely,

Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers
Senator John Albers
Senator Judson Hill
Senator David Shafer
Representative Chuck Martin
Speaker Pro-tem Jan Jones
Majority Whip Edward Lindsey
Representative Joe Wilkinson
Representative Lynn Riley
Representative Wendell Willard

I could not agree more with this letter. What a shame.

A top school with great test scores. Isn't that what we all want as parents?

Sad that the County could nto get over themselves.

There is obviously more to it than meets the eye that the press is not reporting. Do you guys really believe our reporters (newspapers and television) actually give us 100 percent of the story and the entire truth?

If you believe that you are a fool. They can't get the local news straight half the time and only report a little of the entire picture.

Agreeing with a letter that only presents one side of the story? I will wait and see before I jump on the bandwagon of FSA. There is obviously a much bigger reason why FCBOE won't renew for the 10 years. Why didn't they take the three years to keep their school open if it was so important to them, then work on getting another extension during that time? It seems all or nothing with FSA, was that the right stance to take? I don't think so. If the kids matter so much to FSA they should have taken the 3 years for now.
That says it all right there, much more to it than is being reported.

It's all about being a victim for FSA.

Google FSA and see what you find.

I will agree that the FSC has been a success, but at what cost . Please look at background of the people who are running these schools. Almost all heads of these schools and many of the boardmembers are of Turkish disent. WHY? It is because they are attached to a a mildly islamic party out of Turkey called the Gulen Movement. Please see Ny times articlehttp://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/07/education/07charter.html?pagewanted=all
