Liberty's Law Support Continues to Grow.

City of Milton GA Still Defiant.

By Tim Enloe; Accessmilton.com

Liberty's Law, a proposed ordinance to enforce and enhanced current animal abuse laws, continues to gain traction throughout the country. Petition signatures are coming in from Maine to California. Total signatures to date are 777.

Some supporters are even sharing why they believe in Liberty's Law. Patricia Norman out of Archer, FL states "This proposal behind this petition has been wisely developed. It is fair, forward-thinking, and not unfriendly. It could, in fact, become a model for other communities to use for problems like these."

Over the past year and a half, however, Milton Georgia officials have continued to be defiant by refusing to allow Liberty's Law to be presented for consideration.

As a result, a horse who lived on Dorris Road broke it's neck after being spooked by a neighboring property's illegal fireworks earlier this month.

With more marketing planned for Liberty's Law throughout the state and growing support, only time will tell if the City of Milton Georgia's lack of action will be to their benefit or detriment regarding claims of being an equestrian oasis.

This "ordinance" would not have prevented that horse's death unless it somehow was able to travel in time and keep the neighbor from setting off the fireworks to begin with.

You are wrong 4:39 pm. A simple act of the landlord giving to new tenant a copy of Liberty's Law stating very clearly no fireworks near horse farms. Fireworks should be banned in Milton. This law is not as the mayor stated to tv reporter. This is about ongoing cruelty and harassment for over five years - not as mayor stated "one single incident."

I'm wrong? Okay, so the proposed ordinance says "A. First call: Police provide the offender with a warning as well as link to the city's website which explains "Liberty's Law.""

That's great, your fireworks just killed your neighbor's horse, so here's a warning and please read more about this on the city website.

I stand by my original post.

Wrong again. New residents would be given information on Liberty's Law. Whether buying or renting, you are informed. Also, this would be on the city website for all to read.
You seem to have issues about preventing animal cruelty. Who are you trying to protect -- the guilty??

Not trying to protect anyone, but awareness is not prevention, it's just a comfort zone for you unrealistic people.

Before continuing, I ask you to read some of the comments from people who have signed the petition. Than you would be hard pressed to make a statement "it's just a comfort zone for you unrealistic people". So many are not aware of the horrific impact fireworks have on animals, mainly horses. There is a demanding need for Liberty's Law and the protection it affords.

Okay you two, the law does nothing to prevent, I've read it several times and while it mentions enforcing the law against fireworks it says nothing about how the city could "prevent" fireworks from being used, even for properties near equestrian areas. It's all good in theory but not practical or "enforcable" unless authorities know in advance that someone plans to set off fireworks.

Look at this proposal as a beginning point. What is currently the code has done nothing to protect my horse. This wonderful animal has been shot several times, continued harassment, fireworks thrown at her and in her pasture, even bottle rockets used. Recently same people shot a smoke bomb into the pasture at night. It is pathetic seeing this old arthritic horse trying to run to safety.

The city of Milton needs new leadership.

If this is such a huge problem as to require a whole new set of rules -- which already exist in the form of animal cruelty laws at the state and county level -- then where are all the other Milton horse owners? Why hasn't the Milton Horse Council, a chartered group advocating for equestrian causes in Milton, been side-by-side with you in this charge? Could it be that they took one look at your "Liberty's Law" and said, "No thanks?"

The City of Milton needs new leadership? You mean the leadership that brokered a agreement for resident use of Alpharetta parks? That's waist deep in multiple parks and roadway projects? That steered Milton through the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression and came out the other side with a multi-million dollar fund balance? Take a look around some time and realize that one guy's old horse (which, by the way, is so often abused by the horse-hating community that clearly they don't have time for the healthy, virile boarded horses ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIELD) does not a crisis make.

Since the Great Depression??? Ridiculous statement.

You are pathetic with statements you posted. Yes, the people guilty of this five year abuse are horse haters They should have stayed where they came from, not to an area that has horse farms. This must be one of the parents.

There would be no virile boarded horses if the horse haters lived across the road from "Horse Haters".

Not that data from a respected source would ever change your mind, but "US Recession worst since Great Depression, Revised Data Show" from Bloomberg: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aNivTjr852TI

And you believe that garbage? No, the Great Recession cannot be compared.
