Milton Fire-Rescue Department holds first awards.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the Milton Fire Rescue Department held its inaugural Fire Awards ceremony at Atlanta National Country Club.

The entirely donor-funded event celebrated the hard work and dedication of Milton’s fire fighters throughout their first five years of service to the city.

During the awards ceremony, Battalion Chief Roth Hutcheson, pictured right, was named the first Firefighter of the Year. Additionally, the members of engine 42 C shift, Captain Clay Barnette, Fire Apparatus Operator Alex Fortner, firefighter Mark Slyman and firefighter Mark Haskins, were named Fire Company of the Year.

In a very emotional moment, the members of engine 42 B shift, Captain Ryan James, firefighter Eric Sprouse and firefighter Thomas Mickens, engine 43 B shift, Fire Apparatus Operator Don Patterson, Fire Apparatus Operator Joe Champion and firefighter Christopher Seay and Battalion Chief Bill Bourn were given lifesaving awards for saving Whit and Krystal Lofty’s daughter, Kinley, from drowning.

Rumor has it that Milton is going to do away with the PD as we know it. The plan is to let the BLOOM hire some rent-a-cops from Pinkerton security.

How come nobody likes the PD, the few officers I have met seem really nice.

Don't see anything here stating a dislike for the cops.

I was talking in general, it seems like the city doesn't care too much for them. I've only lived here for for 2 yrs, but it appears the city adm doesn't like them. I've been by city hall sevetal times and can't figure out if whe even have police chief. Who is he?

She chief was hired to be the Bloom's administreative assistant when he was the Chief. When he was promoted to City Manager she was made chief.

I thought Chris was the Police chief. Didn't we hire him for that? How does he have any experience to do anything else? And our Police Department is Appreciated, its just we never hear about them because their Boss is a Ghost

BLOOM was the mouthpiece for Alpharetta PD before coming over to Milton to be the CHIEF of PD.

Some where along the way he has learned the political game very well and has advanced to City Manager.

I must say I am very appreciative of our Police. I live on Hopewell Road and they have been amazing. Better than the county was. If the boss doesn't recognize this He or She should. But you know Police aren't glory hounds like politicians so I bet they would just shy away from it anyway...THANK YOU TO ALL OUR SERVANTS

Old saying, "It's more important who you know than what you know".

BLOOM definitely knows this as do a couple of others in the hierarchy at city hall.

People, it's called life. Either you recognize the system and find success through manipulating it, or you don't and get mad at those more successful. Until you understand the choice is yours you're going to have a lot of resentment.
