ATTENTION
CITY OF MILTON RESIDENTS
LAST CHANCE!!!

THE BARN BOTTLE SHOPPE IS SEEKING A MODIFICATION TO THE CURRENT ZONING CONDITIONS TO ALLOW ACCESSORY LIQUOR SALES (30% MAXIMUM FLOOR SPACE) LIQUOR SALES IN OUR WINE STORE. WE ASSURE YOU THAT THE BARN IS, AND ALWAYS WILL REMAIN, A WINE STORE FIRST. BUT MANY OF OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS HAVE INDICATED THAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO HAVE AN ACCESSORY INVENTORY OF TOP SHELF DISTILLED SPIRITS (LIQUOR) AVAILABLE TO THEM.

KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER:

· WE ARE REQUESTING THE RESTRICTION ONLY TO ALLOW 30% OF FLOOR SPACE TO ENSURE IT DOES NOT TURN INTO A LIQUOR STORE.
· WE ARE REQUESTING THAT THE LIQUOR ONLY BE ALLOWED AT THE REAR OF THE STORE.
· WE ARE REQUESTING THAT NO FLOOR STACKS OF LIQUOR BE ALLOWED.
· THIS WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR TO PUBLIX SELLING LIQUOR. GEORGIA LAW PROHIBITS GROCERY STORES FROM SELLING LIQUOR.
· THIS WILL NOT OPEN THE DOOR TO OTHER LIQUOR STORES COMING IN THIS DEVELOPMENT FOR TWO REASONS. FIRST, ONCE THE BARN HAS A LIQUOR LICENSE ISSUED, GEORGIA LAW HAS DISTANCE REQUIREMENTS THAT COULD NOT BE MET BY ANOTHER STORE BECAUSE OF THE BARN’S LOCATION AS WELL AS THE NEARBY CHURCHES AND RESIDENCES. SECOND, THE BARN HAS A SIGNED LEASE AGREEMENT WITH AG ARMSTRONG PROHIBITNG ANY OTHER BUSINESS IN THE DEVELOPMENT FROM SELLING RETAIL LIQUOR.
· BRING IN ADDITIONAL SALES TAX THAT IS CURRENTLY LEAVING MILTON.
· AGAIN, THE BARN IS REQUESTING ONLY 30% FLOOR SPACE. THIS WILL PROTECT THE COMMUNITIES REQUEST FOR NO LIQUORS STORES.

TWO WAYS TO SHOW SUPPORT

· BY COMING TO THE OCTOBER 18, 2007, CITY COUNCIL MEETING STARTING @ 7:00 P.M. AT MILTON CITY HALL.

· BY EMAILING OR CALLING THE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS DIRECTLY:

This is another classic example of government running business [or ruining business] Why don't let supply and demand run the shopping center?

He knew the stipulations when he agree to open his business there. How will this approval open the door for restaurants that shouldn't be in the middle of residential? If the church was too close they wouldn't have even a beer/wine license, so is this really a factor of preventing others from doing the same? It's not like there aren't any liquor stores around, try Winward Parkway and Hwy 9 if you want to buy liquor. Sorry, I am not in complete agreement with the change.

Tim and Tonia have done a great job bringing us an upscale wine store. The accessory sales will not open the door for resturants because that is an on premise issue not retail issue. Current zoning does not prevent resturants from selling liquor by the drink at this development. However, the zoning condition he is requesting would prevent his or any other store from being a "liqour store". No "liqour store" could function with just 30% floor space. Besides State and local law would provent another retail liquor license being issued in this area.

I would rather people have the option of taking it home to drink instead of drinking and trying to make it home.

30% is not a big deal, and I don't think this is going to open the door to anything or anyone else.

This is fine.

If his original vision of a "Wine Bottle Shop" had included liquor sales in the first place he wouldn't have been permitted to open his business at this location. So why gripe now when Council denies.

People change and expand their business all of the time. Nothing wrong with some change as long as it is a not a negative impact.

"So why gripe when Council denies."

If he only had same power as MoM he could introduce and support legislation to justify what he wants and to hell with everyone else.

indeed anonymous is right, the government may want to charge a dark store fee when they run business off. Oh wait, they did that already
