Milton to seek grant money to restore historic house.

By Patrick Fox
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Milton officials will pursue grant money to refurbish and repair the historic Hopewell House, purchased earlier this year for $250,000. Local architect Lew Oliver told City Council members Monday the house needs more in structural work to bring it up to safety specifications. Depending on how extensive the work, project estimates run up to $200,000.
The 3,683-square-foot building sits on 3 acres near the corner of Hopewell and Birmingham roads and is considered one of the oldest structures in Fulton County, dating back to the 1820s or 1830s.

They can get a grant for that...but nothing for the police...oh that's right Milton hates its police..well as long as they don't enforce the law equally to everyone

$200K?...really...WTF people?...no need to make it into a palace...you can't convince me it needs nearly that much work!

And I'm the chair of the HPC, so don't go thinking this was our idea...this purchase is getting worse by the minute.

Mr. Allen -
I am new to Milton. Could you explain the HPC?

What does the grant delineate as use for the funds?

complete nonsense... why would anyone spend more money on that house?

Couldn't tell you what teh grant delineates as use for the funds, I'm not even sure what grant they could be applying for as the site has NOT been declared "historic"...

City Council hasn't really reached out to the HPC on any matters regarding the house, so we have not been included on any discussions about what the plans are for the property.

The people who made the decision to purchase this house should resign immediately if they were not already voted out last week.

Grant money does not grow on trees it has to come out of someones pocket.

If you are on Milton's City council and had anything to do with purchasing this house you need to resign immediatly!

I agree with you 4:35! Alan Tart had in his literature that he was responsible for the purchase which was why I didn't vote for him this time around.

Money is too tight these days. No need to waste it on a house no one famous or historic lived in. Dump this house and use tax money for the park!!!!

It was a unanimous vote by council to purchase the house, and the idea to buy it came from someone on council, not staff or any committee. . You can't blame just one member, although the idea did have to come from one person originally. I'm afraid we've got ourselves a money pit.

which member now im concerned that i should have voted for woolf or that other dude al yankovic or whatever his name was

4:40 is correct about grant money. It is not free money.

Grant money takings have become prolific across North Fulton. Grant money seems to always have strings attached too.

Where are the leaders who will stand up and do the right thing?

People of Milton don't have leaders.
