Monthly fitness tip: Fitness essay.

This fall, Milton fitness camp partner/provider CorePhysique teamed up with Hopewell Middle School for an essay contest to help students learn about and express their feelings on the importance of fitness given America's obesity crisis. Following is an essay by Hopewell Student Paige D.

If teens exercised then many factors would be reduced.

Childhood obesity is a common factor that could be dramatically reduced by exercising. In fact, someone in America dies every 37 seconds from some form of heart disease. High blood pressure is one form, which means arterioles tighten and the heart has to work harder to pump blood.

Heart disease is another factor that could be helped by healthy eating and exercise. All of this can be controlled by eating breakfast each day, by controlling your portion sizes, by making every meal colorful and choosing foods low in sugar and fat. Most of all by exercising!

Exercise should be promoted at Hopewell Middle School because exercise boosts self esteem in teens. Many teens that play sports have higher self-esteem than their less active friends, and exercise can even help boost confidence because of the endorphin rush it can cause.

Endorphins are chemicals that naturally relieve pain and lift mood. These chemicals are released in your body during and after a workout and they work a long way in helping to control stress.

If teens exercised then there would be less bullying because kids would feel better about themselves and would not have to bully kids to make themselves feel better. Bullying may be actually be cut in half or maybe even greater than that!

Many students are stressed if they have a test the next day but that will not need to happen anymore because students will be less stressed. Hopewell may have a higher academic average overall! Wouldn't that be great?

I personally believe that exercise should be a daily part of every teen's life because it certainly is a part of mine! I enjoy exercising and I enjoy helping people learn how to live a healthier lifestyle by eating healthier and exercising.

All in all if you think about it exercise can really be life changing!
