In a night where the results were changing by the minute thanks to visitors like you,
Incumbents Julie Zahner Bailey and Alan Tart fought hard to save their seats but in the long run, the victories went to Matt Kunz and Lance Large.
Many thanks to both Julie and Alan for their service to the city and congratulations to Matt and Lance.
Heres to 2013...

Could not be happier.
OH MY. Finally......
I have to move now. Milton is in trouble. Goodbye rural home, hello development.
Please leave. Any rational, thinking person can recognize that both can exist in a town and thrive.
Ding dong the witch is gone witch o witch the witch o witch
You mean we might have a real city now.......few more changes and life will be good.
Which old witch? The wicked witch...
Take your horse and go!
Karen Thurman is gone! Bye witch! U r next!
Nope greed overtakes any attempt of balance. Both cannot coexist, name one town in the USA where there is a successful balance? Greed always wins and it will here too. Thank goodness we will rid Milton of Thurman on council with the end of her term, she is the witch, which needs to go next. Term limits are good, ask Lance, he wants to shorten them.
Again what percentage of Milton voted Tim? Can u figure that out or is it too complicated?
Looks like the dirty tricks played by Lance Large worked. Got robo calls from him that were under handed and mean spirited. Looks like Large acted small to get the win.,
Don't you and JZB have an "Occupy" protest to go to? Good thing she's not "Occupying" Milton anymore!
in two years there will be nothing to try to falsely scare people with
what will you do then?
Crazies stay home next time and stay off of this site - you are an embarrassment to the city
time to form a real city
that means some other council members need to start leading as well
Milton is a horrible place for small/any business - or a land owner who wants to do anything - just needs better organization and leadership
not just JZP and AT
a new park with lights? oh my - what will we do next
now if we only had money to build something
JZB thanks for stopping the park plans for 15 years
it would have been horrible to have FC pay for it 10 years ago good thing you studied those transmission lines
Somewhere, ewoks are dancing....
Judging by the comments, you would think that there was overwhelming support for ousting Julie. Readers should notice that all the posts are from the same person.
I'm not necessarily a huge Julie supporter, but I am mature enough to recognize a few things:
- The candidates that won have no interest in the city. They are interested in lining their own pockets.
- The people who voted for them were too lazy to find a better alternative to Julie; they will be too lazy to hold the city council's feet to the fire while protecting the city against those who bought this and the previous elections.
- The city was doomed from the start. 90% of the city by area has no representation. If you look at the results, you can see that the densely-populated areas (which have no interest in the rural character of the rest of the city) control the elections.
Goodbye, Milton, we hardly knew ya.
ummm karen and bill can run again as this is their first full term isnt it?
ummmm.... second term for Thurman. Who's Lusk? Except for promising a Development Authority that could have helped businesses if he had followed through, what else has he NOT done? Asleep at the wheel that one.
John Klein: Are you the one concerned about veterans? Reaearch who on Council has the predatory loan company with long family history and huge investments. The company, Rome Finance "took" 800 Ft. Campbell soldiers. Go to Tennessee Attorney General's website and search "Britlee".
JEEZUS..... whoever you are with the Rome financial thing --- LET IT GO! No one cares OR ever did. Its like W stealing the 2000 election or Obama's supposed fake birth certificate-- even if there were any truth to it, it doesn't much matter now, does it? Get yourself a job or a hobby, ANYTHING that will give your life some meaning.
karen and bills first terms did not could against the limit as they were not full four year terms so they along with mayor lostwood can run again
To the "Could not be happier" "Finally" and "Well done" comments, you all must have empty land that you've been anxiously waiting to sell to commercial developers. I love our horse farms. I love our rural atmosphere. Now, I promise you, it will all be gone. For those idiots that voted for Kunz and Large, get ready for apartments, strip malls, urban sprawl and crime because it's coming! If you didn't like Milton the way it was, then why didn't you move to Roswell or Johns Creek?
Is it really necessary to argue back and forth like children? Let's be honest with ourselves, no matter who is sitting on Council, Milton is and will always be a giant mess with a group of arrogant leaders! Yes, the city has made many improvements, however the childish behavior of past, present and future city leaders will prevent Milton from ever being the great city we ALL wish for. Also, Let's not forget the constant turn over of city staff too! We have a serious problem within the city.
I am not happy with last nights outcome, however I wish them the best. Welcome to the big leagues boys!
Congratulations to Matt and Lance!
The sky is falling!! The sky is falling!! Only Julie could protect Milton!! Go back home and drink your kool-aid!!
Do those of you who think Matt and Lance will bring chaos to Milton think they are the only ones on Council who vote? They are two votes, and I hardly believe they can wield THAT much pressure on fellow Council members to agree to build apartments, strip malls or whatever to "ruin" our rural character. Let's give them a chance before you all start tearing them apart.
Unfortunately, I'm sure Julie isn't going to go away--in fact, she might be more of a thorn NOT being on City Council.
27,000 residents don't give a damn about Milton. They didn't vote. It's easy pickings for the developers to find naive and egotistical people to run as council members sympathetic to their desires. All it takes is some hefty donations to put pressure when needed.
This is the only reason to be thankful the economy sucks right now. At least we know it's going to take a few years and a new President to even think of new development happening here or anywhere else. It's what they do between now and then to prepare for when the economy does rebound that will need to be watched like an eagle eye.
