Site Suggestions Needed For New North Fulton Libraries

Eight new libraries are scheduled to be constructed as part of the Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System's facility master plan.

Of those, three will be located on existing or donated land parcels, including a library at the edge of East Roswell Park.

The library system is seeking input from citizens on the location of the remaining facilities. Parcels of land have not yet been identified for new libraries in Milton and Alpharetta.

The public is invited to submit site recommendations by July 30 through one of the following ways:

- Online: www.afpls.org, click on input on New Library Sites.
-E-mail:librarycomments@fultoncountyga.gov
-Fax: (404) 335 5291
- Mail: Branch Services, Central Library, One Margaret Mitchell Square, Atlanta, GA 30303.

It should also be noted that Accessmilton.com conducted a poll earlier this year. The two choices given to vote on for Milton were the Hwy 9 area and Crabapple. The question and results were as follows:

"Where should the proposed Milton Library be built?"

Results: Highway 9 - 38% Crabapple - 62%

I suggest the open road neighborhood of Bethany Farms. That's close to me, but won't bother my subdivision with traffic and noise.

I think either the southwest or northwest corner of Birmingham Hwy. & Providence Road would work well for the new library. This location is centrally located and its on the state highway which already has other commercial enterprises and traffic. Also, using one of these corners would be a catalst for getting this dangerous intersection fixed after many years of concern and discussion.

Finally a good suggestion!

This site does not have room for "good" suggestions.

Will this library serve taco's?

Anonymous said...

YES, served by Taco Bell.

how would the city pay for that intersection even if a library was built on one of the corners?

City can't pay for pot hole repairs, very doubtful they could afford to upgrade this site.

The city should raise taxes, then they could pay for all the above.

The library should be on or near Highway 9, near the majority of the Milton population.

BINGO !!!

Put a library near peoples' expensive homes?! No school, no library! Someone might get educated!

The library is not going to be paid by the City of Milton. It's going to be paid by the Atlanta-Fulton County Library System. Putting the library in Milton as well as other new libraries in North Fulton was part of the negotiations to balance out the number of libraries throughout the system, with North Fulton having very few libraries while paying a great share of the taxes.

The Providence Road and Birmingham Hwy. intersection has been slated for years for major improvements that would help the overall safety of this corner. The library system would be responsible for the site improvements for its corner which would lower the overall cost of the intersection project. With a lower cost to complete, we may finally get this project to the top of the list.

It makes sense to have the Library near the homes of the residents who will use it. The Alpharetta library on Mayfield and Hopewell is one of the busiest in the Library system and it sits on a residential corner. It's easy for residents to reach and it doesn't have a lot of downtown/Hwy 9 traffic to deal with. A library is not a McDonalds demanding daily traffic count. It's a destination facility and it is helpful for the library to be accessible and near the citizens who will use it.

Must be a new comer to the area.........Alpharetta Library is at Mayfield and Canton St, not Hopewell.

ANY location on Highway 9 would be easily accessible to Milton and Alpharetta residents without having to drive the curvy, dangerous residential roads of Milton.
