Milton City Manager's fate still undecided

By DOUG NURSE / The Atlanta Journal-Constitution / Published on: 08/03/07

The Milton City Council spent another fruitless night Thursday in executive session debating the future of the city manager.

Members convened in executive session shortly before 8 p.m. Then, about 11:30 p.m., a couple of weary council members and the city attorney emerged briefly from behind closed doors to announce no decision would be forthcoming. At midnight, they were still going.

The City Council also met for 14 consecutive hours on Monday to discuss "personnel matters."
Some members of the City Council are angry that City Manager Aaron Bovos took four months to tell them that the city had missed a deadline with the state to receive about $900,000 in insurance taxes. Some council members are unhappy at the error itself, and some are displeased that Bovos told them incorrectly that the money would go to Fulton County and could be accessed there.

Bovos, the only city manager this 8-month-old city has ever had, has been absent since Tuesday.

Throughout the evening, a couple of reporters sat in the empty meeting room at City Hall, swapping stories and speculating about what was happening. Sometimes voices could be heard through the door.

Staff members drifted in and out, sitting among the empty chairs, looking like children whose parents are quarreling in the next room. They, of course, didn't know anything about what was going on with the council.

Wonder what the total bill will be for city attorney to sit in on these ridiculous meetings and hold the hands of these clowns?

It is a shame they can legally meet behind closed doors. However, this gives them a great opportunity to concentrate on impressing each other with their vast knowledge and wisdom. It is doubtful some of these egomaniacs could track an elephant in the snow.
