Welcome To Bethany Road!

Double Click To Enlarge Screen.

"Welcome to Bethany Road; the Southeastern gateway to beautiful Milton, Georgia!

This open road neighborhood is home to 44 families; from newborns to seniors in their 90's!

'We love Bethany Road', a Milton Council Member recently shared, 'with all the programs we have put in place to protect open road residents and their properties, it is no wonder that this open road neighborhood has flourished!'

With speeds in the 70mph range, annual vehicular fatalities, constant road-side trash and noise pollution to boot; it is the perfect place to live that 'rural' lifestyle!

Ready to be the next gated community, Bethany Road has something for everyone!"

Incident took place at approximately 9pm on Monday evening; September 27, 2010. The offender did not stop. Many thanks to Milton Police Officer Wong for answering the call.

For all you idiots about to bash Tim, keep in mind that this could have happened at any time of day, he or his wife could have even been out checking the mail.

For all you idiots that drive fast and complain about police enforcing the speed...FU! If you don't like it, LEAVE!

I'll tell you where your cops are everyday: Hopewell rd. and Birmingham Rd. They never cover your precious Bethany Rd. with any presence. One time I saw 4 cop cars in a row on Hopewell. That makes a lot of sense?

Wonder if it would get Council's attention if it was Mayor Lockwood's house on an open road that got his mailbox hit and school bus sign ran slap over and front yard turfed? If you live in a subdivision, how would you like it if someone drove down your road 70 mph and took out your beautiful manicured bermuda grass, garden dwarf and mailbox?

Not funny is it.

Tim you need a survellience camera at the road to catch people like this, at least you'd have a video and description of the vehicle to give to the police.

What is most troubling to me is the fact that council; both past and present, have done nothing to protected the open road neighborhoods of Milton.

There have been zero vehicular fatalities in any subdivision, yet all attention is focused on gate closings and the like.

I thought we were going to get some help after that accident which resulted in the death of a father and son due to speeding at 90 plus mph, but nothing happened.

I have seen more and more cyclists and runners over the last year, and that is a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.

And what ORN resident doesn't pick up roadside trash thrown in their front yards daily?

If these residential nodes were treated us such and supported in such a fashion, I have no doubt that results would transpire.

Instead, Milton gov't loves to talk 'rural' while showcasing an equestrian theme at city hall, but it is all talk and image with zero action and support. Come to think of it, I haven't heard of any laws to help equestrians either...

One would think they would protect those that make the area different, but I digress.

I'd like to see some son of a bitch hit my open road mailbox. It's a special one just waiting for them.

Tim, keep in mind that the "bad guys" are the speeding drivers, not the subdivision residents who are trying to keep their neighborhoods safe, just like you.

4:23 - To say that all of one group is right all the time and all of another is wrong all the time would be foolish at best.
I have many friends who reside within some of Milton's subdivisions fyi.

I will say that with 90% of residents in Milton residing in subdivisions, deductive reasoning is all that is needed in order to figure out where the majority of traffic and speeding has spawned from since my family moving here in 77.

As soon as council gates Club Creek Drive, Bethany will be next in line.

All the best -

How can one determine that the speeding drivers are not from subdivisions? Do you not think that those living on open roads wish to keep their areas safe as well? You in subdivisions are not witnessing excessive speeds every hour of every day. These speeds exceed 70 mph.

I don't understand how this issue became a sub-division versus open road neighborhood issue.

Did it occur to anyone that ALL of Milton's roads are used by anyone in the area, not just those who live in Milton. We can't just blame Milton residents for these problems.

Unless you live on an open road or have lived on an open road then you don't quite understand what it is like to pull out of one's driveway at 40 mph just so you don't get rearended or blindsided. I think the subdivisions were brought up because the city officials do not treat residents equally. They do a speeding survey in the subdivisions, whereas the excessive speeding, severe wrecks, and deaths occur on the open roads. That is why the subdivisions were dragged into this conversation. We used to live in a subdivison a long time ago, but when we moved out onto larger property on an open road, we realized how dangerous it was for homeowners to enter and exit their properties sometimes due to the ignorance and carelessness of other drivers on the road. If the same driving behavior occurred in subdivisions there would be an outrage. Nothing against people who live in subdivisions, just a double standard by the city in trying to do something about educating, informing, and making drivers in our city slow it down and pay attention to the residents who live on those beautiful pastorial roads they so love to travel. Then throw in dodging runniers and bicyclists which creates an even more dangerous situation for everyone.

Tim, how fast did the officer that came to your house determine the driver who ran down your sign and mailbox was going. I've seen damage done like that from 35 MPH. Just curious.

Tim Enloe said...

Good question: No determination was made at that time; he wanted to see if he could find the guy; so headed out quick.

Although I feel the same way at times, if someone does hit your mailbox and it hurts them you will be liable!

To 446, I'll take my chances.

Do you think it is possible that Tim's mailbox might have been hit on purpose?

Anonymous said...

No, Tim's mailbox was obviously hit by a driver either under the influence or possibly looking for the cell phone and the vehicle veered off the road. Thankfully, neither Tim or Ginger were hurt.

To set the record straight, Tim's mailbox was not the first object hit.
A School Bus Stop Ahead sign was struck first, then a 3 ft 4x4 post in the ground with reflectors and then Tim's mailbox. The SBSA sign post was bent into from the force of the vehicle that did not stop or return to the sight.

A neighbor.

I live in a subdivision and I take my life in my hands pulling out of the subdivision onto Taylor Road which is considered an open road. Drivers (mostly from Cherokee) are using Taylor as a cut through because they don't want to wait in traffic on Batesville Road. I have counted up to 70 cars waiting in line to make the turn onto Birmingham Highway from Batesville during the morning rush hour. Instead of waiting in line, many of these drivers decide to speed down Taylor. Speeding effects everyone, open road residents and subdivision residents alike. So, next time you see someone speeding and there's a police officer ahead, don't give the speeder a heads up...let them face the music and get a ticket.

Love the 7:15 post. Also try blinking your lights at someone coming too fast towards you and you know there is not a police officer around. I just laugh at those brake lights and keep on trucking. Also when someone decides they are going to pass you on a double yellow line, turn your left blinker on. That will back them off your tail for a awhile.
