Wishing you all the best this year and next

Message from Mayor Joe Lockwood

As the year draws to a close, let me wish everyone in Milton a Happy Holiday season - I'm sure we can all appreciate the good tidings and cheer.

Let's be honest: 2009 has been a tough year for pretty much everyone in this city, county, state and country. At the Lockwood homestead, we've had to cut back financially, and that meant less presents under the tree. But as I sat on Christmas morning with my wife Dawn, daughter Morgan, sons Evans and Charlie and Milton's "first dog," Henry, I realized fewer packages meant more time to cherish what truly matters. That, I learned, was the true meaning of the season.

So now we all look ahead to 2010. The last 12 months have seen a lot of changes in the city, and the next dozen promise even more. Starting Jan. 1 the transition from the public-private form of government will be complete, so expect a few new faces. However, the majority of our hard-working employees chose to stay with Milton, meaning a smooth transition and top-notch services for our citizens.

In the coming year, citizens can expect a completed Comprehensive Plan, implementation of the Transportation Master Plan and planning for our parks. All the while, we'll keep an eye on conservative budgeting and providing our citizens what they have requested - attention to our history, preservation of our trees, building a trail plan we can all be proud of and bolstering our commitment to environmentalism.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call, e-mail or come and visit City Hall. We're always open to all.

Sincerely,
Mayor Joe Lockwood

Joe, you forgot to say goodbye and good luck to someone I worked with and cared about much at the City of Milton. Someone who worked there from day one. Someone who was serving as not only a projects/events person but also served as an integral part of bridging city hall and the community. Someone who had a passion for connecting us all. Someone who had her priorities in order in her everyday life. A grateful employee even at times when no one said thanks for a great job. Thanks for all the energy you gave us. And, did Council behave in the same way when it was time to say goodbye.

The words we don't say often hurt the most.

Think about it. And I ask that of all of you. How would you feel? She loved Milton and you and us, every one and everything.

Where do the volunteers stand now? Did y'all think that maybe we would want to be involved in a show of gratitude towards her. After all, SHE is the one who got us all rounded up since the very day the doors opened for the first time at City Hall.

Her name is Linda Blow.

And my heart cries out for her because she deserved more in the end. It was not her decision, it was ultimately yours as my favorite mayor.

This is not the first good person to lose a job and won't be the last.

A poster said she would not have any problem finding a new job paying more than she was making. Many good people can't find a new job, regardless of pay. So get over it and let's move on in this sweet city.

This is not about losing the job - it's about saying thanks and good luck. She wasn't fired, she was eliminated. Where I go to church we teach the little ones to treat others as you want to be treated. As usual, it's all about what you learned in kindergarten, be nice, say please and thank you, etc. Apparently there is no place for that in government. If you are part of the decision to eliminate her at least have the good manners to wish her well. She worked alongside each and every council member at some point in her term as well as the Mayor. It was her idea for the paperweights at the Volunteer Appreciation event. Her idea for the 4th of July Citizens Parade, her idea for Christmas in Crabapple. The Mayor gives two people praise for putting on a race but nothing for Linda. Shame on all of them.

There is no doubt you cared very much for Linda. It appears she was hurt, and rightly so, if it happened the way you state, for being eliminated without even a thank you, good luck, or goodbye from the mayor. However, do you think airing this on AM is going to help the situation.

By the way were you an employee of CH2 or Milton and are you still employed?

Hey, I think posting on tis site does help when you tell the TRUTH about what happens at City Hall. They are piss poor managers of people and that is what running a city is all about. People.

Be positive about your sweet city and the employees, especially supervision.
